Spring rate advice

Hi All

As the title says i'm looking for advice in choosing the right springs for my single seater race car. Is there a method of coming up with the right spring or is it a case of just trying a few different ones till you find the best one.

There are several ways.

1. Use what the manufacturer suggests
2. Use what other competitors in identical cars suggest
3. Use the same wheel rates as competitors in similar cars
4. Choose a starting wheel rate, and work out the spring rate from that.

Equations can be found on google. Search for Wheel Rate equations or Allan Staniforth. The first result in google was this (a chavvy car forum, but the equations are correct - http://www.team-integra.net/forum/18...ate-again.html)

Thanks Tristan i will read up on it a bit over the next couple of days, i'm running what the manufacturer recommends at the minute but the car feels quite soft at times so i just wanted to know was there any easy way to find out what i should be running

It all depends on the multiplication rate of the suspension Gary. One car could be using 500lb springs and be softer than one with 400lb ones. As I found out on this forum. Plus cars with wings will have to beef up their springs due to the downforce.

Drive for a FULL season. Then figure out what you'd like the car to do and what you don't want it to do right now. Then research how to make springs do those things.
