Strakka moves into single seaters
Strakka have bought Formula Renault 3.5 team P1 Motorsport. It ties in with their driver development business, and could provide a supply of cheap, young drivers for their sportscar outfit if the need arose, I guess.
More importantly, it allows us to specualate wildly and without foundation about a future engine deal with Renault/Nissan in LMP1! http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/106593 |

It's good that they see this as something which sits alongside and complements the sportscar programme.
Not sure how they'd bring guys through into sportscars unless they expand there too - especially with Nick still wanting to drive. Hopefully this makes them more appealing to sponsors and manufacturers. |

Got a bit scared by the topic, "expands" would maybe be a better word then "moves"?

HPD is the "constructor" of "record" for the 03 family of LMP cars, though they're all actually built by Wirth Research I believe, and are based heavily off the Courage LC70/Oreca 01-03 family of LMPs. The HPD chassis only has enough changes done to it so that they won't risk copyright infringement challenges and charges from Oreca.

tbh, looking at it from the end of last year and the kind of ridiculously huge operation p1 was i'm not at all surprised it ended up being bought by someone like this. they had all sorts of non-fr3.5 related assets like single seater chassis for testing and related parts stock, and the price the previous owner was looking for it was probably in the region of twice as much as the amount another team with a simpler setup was sold on for at the end of last season. so what they have does indeed fit in very well with the non-racing side of strakka's business. it'll be interesting to see if they do anything with the team or just use it as a showboating enterprise. |
