Do pretty cars win races?
I once heard a comment from a very well respected chief designer that "Pretty cars don't win races..."
What are your thoughts on this... Do pretty cars win? Do winners become pretty cars? |

I think to a large degree, the winners become the standard for pretty.
Then again, there are some cars which would have been breathtaking if they'd lost every race they'd been entered in. McLaren F1, Porsche 911 GT1, Ferrari GTO, Porsche 917, Porsche 550... |

I won't comment the Audis but :
- BMW : nice - Porsche GT1 : great - Joest spyders : huh... - Mac Laren : I'm not a fan, but I know there's great amateurs here - FG ? - Dauer Porsche : huh... - Peugeot : not bad - Mazda : one of my favourites - Sauber : good - Jaguar : another giant ... Feel free to not agree ! Last edited by Fab; 8 Apr 2003 at 05:20. |

The Panoz LMP-01, which is butt ugly, won races. Because they beat Audi, people think they're beautiful.

BTW, my favourite Panozes were the 99' black spyders, and the 97/98 Esperantes and Hybrids... Last edited by Fab; 8 Apr 2003 at 05:32. |

Well, speaking of Le Mans, "pretty" cars have often won. I too tend to think first of 1988/90 and 1995.

And yes pretty cars do win races. That's why Ferrari won the championship last, year, and Williams didn't...
But, strange that Audi won and not Bentley, and how BMW (not that that was an ungly car by any means) and not the Toyota. Anyway. I think a more suitable expression is "if it looks right; it is right..." Too true (BTW: Anyone know who said that?) |

didn't
gordon murray say that? about "looking right"? besides, of course they do. the Viper won LeMans (GTS) 1-2, 3 years in a row, and has 7 major championships and countless national titles to it's brood. :-) and when it comes back reborn, skin shed, and fully evolved...it'll do it again.
