Right, this one.

Just go to the village and look for the 2.5m tall pin. (From the google picture, it might be a pin, but I'm guessing it's more likely a chêne.)

might as well say it here, I wish you all a very good weekend, I will again only be viewing it with my best friend, about a three hour drive away from Montreal, so I'll be thinking of all of you there.

Shall cross my fingers etc for good weather as well as a healthy amount of drama for the race.

et pour les Français, peut-être Ã* la prochaine fois, passe un weekend super, pas trop chaud j'espére et surtout, pas des gouts.....

cheers

I'll keep my eyes on the screen for any of you!

Since I missed the gathering in 2004, I'm coming to this one, along with my dad and my girlfriend (who I recently discovered has been doing her LM homework by lurking here on 10/10ths...)

Now that would be classic... a six foot tall, pin shaped helium ballon tied to the tree.

Looking foward to being there.

Thanks all for the warm welcome! It is nice to be official (and not that strange lurking girlfriend).

I must admit, I am very much looking forward to Le Mans...and the fabled giant pin. See you all in a week and a bit!

I'm sure you've heard this from others, I have only been to one full race, the event is really quite fascinating from many different angles, a real spectacle, but do make sure to have comfortable ear protection that fits your ears well and cuts the sound down well. Between the fans camping and the race itself, the constant loud noise (while scrumptious because of the different engine sounds) can be very tiring and wears you down after a full day (me anyway).

SF, boy thats a good 9 hrs of time difference to get over for the two of you, hope your trip is not too rushed and you can see some more quiet parts of France as well.

cheers

I agree you can have it available, but I have never worn ear protection anywhere, and certainly not at Le Mans. I agree it can become a little tiring - certainly by Sunday afternoon - but I'm already completely cream crackered by then anyway....

The only time I've ever been even slightly worried about my ears was back in 1985 at the GP of Europe when I was standing just down from Druids as the turbo cars got on the power to Graham Hill Bend - I could feel my ears beginning to complain - a bit like the taste buds do when they realise you're subjecting them to another vindaloo......

Seriously, I don't find the noise any worse at Le Mans than anywhere else. If you're near the Audi/Peugeot pits you might want to bring something to amplify the noise.......

you're quite right, but when sitting in the grandstand (at least the pits grandstand where I sit), I think the grandstands both sides of the track amplify the sounds, and then those sreaming Judd's are really disturbing to my ears

I've never worn ear-plus there either, i usually find earphones listening to rlm is enough, besides it makes the quietness of sunday night even sweeter.

I've just heard some bad news from Fab - as expected, he shan't be attending this year's event (and can't even come for a quick visit on Thursday per previous promises), but worse, it appears he won't be able to attend next year either!

He's now trying to plan into the dim mists of the future (2009) to ensure this does not happen any more...

Only once at a certain point of the track did an engine really bother me , it was the quad rotor ..... i loved it , but it strung my ear , just once !!!

The pit straight has a pretty bad sound , as the sound echo's off both sides of the grandstands .

Yes, we've got a couple of days in Paris first, then LM, then a week in a gite in the Loire, then a week in another gite in the Dordogne. Been saving up money and time off work for a long time.....

Hmmm. A 2008 absence is definitely not in my plans for Fab....... I think he needs to appear before the headmaster in his office......

Sounds like us. A few days pre-race in Paris, then a week in N. Italy, then a week in Switzerland. Have fun.

what's that you're saying Ayse, can't hear ya, speak up!
To each his own, Bernard, absolutely agree with you-in retrospect, the pit straight definately is the worst.
Part of my experience there was that I had had terrible sleeps in the nights leading up to Saturday (thanks to the campsite shinanigans), throw in jet lag, and schlepping my stuff around, being visually alert all the time and walking a lot in often 30c weather meant that the accumulation of it all was draining.

good one Ayse for the diesel sound amplifier idea (I remember not hearing the silver diesel car that was there the year I was there, forget the name)

ciao
