CART Layoffs

There were rumblings of a holiday massacre in the CART office and apparently they're true.

In this week's National Speed Sport News, writer John Oreowicz (who also writes for cart.com) states that 17 employees were let go, including the three-man broadcast department, several lower level marketing positions and Senior Manager of Circuit Development Martyn Thake.

Additionally, Vice President of Promoter Operations Tim Mayer and Senior Manager of Competition Gary Barnard were reassigned to contractor status.

Pook had warned of layoffs earlier. I believe the statement was something to the effect that there were way too many doing way too little and way too few doing way too much. I don't think it would have been a surprise to anyone at CART. The tough side of a turn-around is always the fat cutting process.

Yeah I think that was in that Pook interview only last week or so too.
Good to see he hasn't wasted time in jettisoning the dead wood.
