Iwantacaterham should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
My first time.. BARC at Silverstone

Howdy all.. my first stab at motorsports. I usually stick to landscapes, which are somewhat easier as they don't usually move so quickly. But having recently made the leap to digital & having been kindly given a ticket to the BARC Club Day at Silverstone, I thought I'd give this a try.

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed my first club experience, it was a great day out, so thanks to all the racers & marshalls that make it possible.. And thankyou to Mark for the ticket, and big congratulations for the win.

Some pictures here-

Now I just need to try to resist the urge to get a Caterham.. They look like a lot of fun

Well done - some nice pics there.

What camera/lens combination?

Rob.

pmoloney.. Afraid not, I've got 1,44, 24 & half of 5

But there's always the next race

I was using a Nikon D2X & 70-200 2.8 set at 400ASA. Most of the shots were at around 1/500 & F11, so once I get some more panning practice I hope to try a few more slower exposures. Going digital certainly makes experimenting a lot easier.

You went digital with a great camera. You should get some good photos once you have mastered the panning.

Nice pics.. and you got no.45/Moloney with a sore nose

I've stuck a couple of cropped no.19's up there for you Scott.. PM me with an email addy & I'll send them to you. One bonus, throwing away all them pixels has made'em a lot smaller.

I only installed Photoshop Sunday & hate reading manuals, so anything fancier will have to wait a while until I figure out the 'other side' of going digital.. The manual for the Nikon was bad enough. Still, less messy than the old ways & less chemistry in the fridge to make the food taste strange.

Thanks for the comment Iwantacaterham, like your pics very much, did I walk up and speak to you ?,made a comment about being able to see over the fence....
Club meetings are great, especially at a place the size of Silverstone,it feels like you have the place to yourself.........I go nearly every week and shoot loads of pics all trying to get the panning right and the perfect pic(well for me anyway).....loads of fun,and hopefully can make some racers happy....

You must be one of the few who thinks that! I'm not a fan of club meets at Silverstone, it's such a trek to get anywhere...

Coopers.. Yup, that was me

I'd only previously been to a couple of corporate events at F1 & WSB and wasn't used to the freedom of club meets.. And also had no real idea of the circuit layout or where to stand. It seemed like a big track when I arrived and followed some car turning left & promptly did a lap of the perimeter road.

Next time I think I need to do a little more prep & find some track guides that show the layout & racing lines so I've got a better idea of where to be & how to get there.. But it was a good day out for me & the sun came out

Also.. is it ok to be wandering around the car prep area & taking pics there?

If you mean in the paddock etc., that's usually fine. Obviously keep an eye for cars being moved etc. The pit lane itself is out of bounds to the general public, for obvious reasons.

Scott, given that all of the FF2000 races are now being covered on the FF1600 website there will always be somebody there for us.
