Selling photos electronically

Got a question, a driver wants to buy some photos of mine, and wants them electronically. I haven't really thought about this, should've done really, but what would be a reasonable price to charge him?

Cheers.

What does he want to use them for Mike, personal use, to give to a sponsor, commercial for an advert? Are you intending to give him the right to reproduce as and when he likes or just the right to use the images once? What sort of level of racing - a club racer who's trying to get by or a more professional team?

Send me or Happy Snapper a pm if you want some ideas.

Mike,

I do this all the time mainly when I do portrait work for horses and such and YMMV but this is how I make sure that a) the customer gets the images they want and b) you don't ripped off image wise and thus out of pocket.

Simply, if the client buys an 8x12 or a series of 8x12's (I only go as small as 5x7s) and so what I offer is for approx $50 an identical version of the print photo they have purchased formatted and sized for web/email use at 600pixels on the long side on CD. They're given limited usage rights (non commercial use on personal websites/email and such - if it's commercial then the price goes up quite a bit and licensing is involved).

It's $50 whether they order one 8x12 or four etc etc. My 8x12 fees can vary but typically start around $55 per print for your standard Fuji archive print.

I do not sell web/email versions of images without a print sale first.

Hope this helps.

Andrew
