Martin HARROLD should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Citroen 24 Hour 2CV Race - 2004

Hello all:
I've been pointed in the direction of this site by the cheerful marshals who ran the race at Stowe this weekend.
I run a car in the 2cvparts.com 2CV Championship, and yes - we won some races ysterday.
I'm also the guy in the 2CV Racing Club who looks after the Citroen 24 Hour 2CV Race. Many of you may know that after many years at Mondello it moved to Snetterton this year and despite a few glitches, mainly with the timing, it went well and everyone, including the marshals, enjoyed it.
It is set to run again in June 2004, date to be fixed, but probably the same w/e as Le Mans. We should have a full grid of 40+ cars. We are getting some things arranged which will make it an even better weekend for drivers, teams, marshals and spectators. More later.
The 2CV club website is down just now, but if anyone has any questions at all, you can get me on mharrold@lionpic.co.uk.
Best wishes,
Martin HARROLD

Hi Martin, I took part in this year's 24hour race (my first time) as part of Team Stinky.

Would it be possible to run next year's race on a different date to LeMans? I know a lot of marshals and drivers (and spectators) like to make the trip over to France, and having both races on the same date may deprive the 2CVs of personnel..

I'm looking forward to this year's race - should be even better than ever

I thought the date had already been set as 20th June, the week after Le Mans. Please don't tell me it's changed.

Why anyone even consider holding it the same weekend as the 'proper' 24hrs?! Madness!

Its silly I'd love to be able to go to both 24hour races, holding them on the same weekend is silly and as i've more or less booked to go to Le Mans, thats were I'll be!

Thanks for comments and thoughts so far. Very helpful. There are pro's and con's on having it the same w/e as Le Mans. But BARC have just today suggested a possible alternative date of August 14/15. What are all your reactions to that ?

I've got that pencilled in from another posting on ten-tenths that there's JEC at Snet. on the 15th August?

Whatever date's agreed, I will probably be volunteering to marshal anyway (can't afford Le Mans )

Al.

Having pit crewed for Team Stinky last year, I would prefer a date that didn't clash, so all my friends who visit Le Mans can sample the fantastic atmosphere that the 2CV 24 hours brings, and I'd also love to see Alan Hyde commentating, which he has said he would very much like to do, except he is usually committed to Le Mans.

That weekend is also BTCC @ Mondello. Bad enough I can't be in 2 places at the same time, now I'll have to be in 3

Might also attract some spectators if it was somewhere warmer & more accessable than Snett?

The problem with that is that (at least last time I checked) Snetterton is the only circuit on British Mainland licensed to hold 24 hour races.

I think Silverstone National also has a 24 Hour licence - but it'd be just too dull in a 2CV. Mondello never had a 24 Hour licence as we found out last year :-O

Martin HARROLD should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The latest news today (and it is still provisional) is that the Citroen 24Hr 2CV Race will be held on the date already pencilled-in in some places, June 18/19/20. This is the weekend after Le Mans. But, the calendar is still fluid. I'll keep you posted. The 2CV Racing Club hopes to have a stand at Autosport International and we will be pleased to chat with marshals and prospective drivers and supporters.

That's good news. I'm another Le Mans regular who has been sufficiently enthused to want to see the 2cvs. But with the best will in the world, the French event would take precedence for me.

I think HSCC have June 19/20, so it may well be the August date. Calenders are still "fluid" though, watch this space.

Rod, and anyone else who's seen it - don't believe everything you read on the HSCC calendar.

18-20 June is good news for me as the other dates mentioned would have ruled me out. Suggest you post this info on the marshals forum to get their early committment.

Thought I'd bump this back to the top. The organisers have a new website - www.snet24.co.uk
