Wolfgang Graf Berghe von Trips

September, 10th marks the 44th Anniversary of the passing of Wolfgang Graf Berghe von Trips, tragically killed at Monza during the F1 Grand Prix. He took 15 spectators with him.

His left rear tyre touched the right front tyre of Jim Clarks Lotus in lap 2 short before the Parabolica or Curvetta, how it was called in these days. von Trips got catapulted out of his Ferrari and died immediately due to his bad injuries.

"Taffy" Graf Berghe von Trips was the 1st german to win a F1 worldchampionship, on Ferrari even. He went as championship leader to Monza where his teammate Phil Hill earned the championship then under the circumstances.

von Trips wasn´t only successful in F1 but in Sports Car Races too. He won the Targa Florio and gently gave away a win at the Mille Miglia to Taruffi.

RIP Graf Berghe von Trips
