What Car maker (Marque) do you feel most affection for and Why?
I was talking to a few car heads the other day and one of them was talking about their fondness for Peugeot's. He doesn't really like the cars they make that much anymore but deep down has a soft spot for any car carrying that badge.
It got me thinking, what makers do I have a soft spot for. Well I love all car manufacturers in some way (almost) but Lamborghini have a special place in my heart because I think it was a Lamborghini that I saw when I was young that made me crazy about cars. My first car was an opel and my second a ford, I have no fondness for open but strangely I do for Ford. I'm a huge Mercedes Fan because they have made some of my favourite cars of all time, but Lamborghini still have my allegiance. No matter who owns the brand it's a badge that I will always get my support. So what does it for you and why? |

It's good to know car dreams can come true. |

There are a few.
Above all, Bentley. It's my middle name. No, really it is - Bentley was my mother's maiden name, and she was an only child so they gave it me to keep the name in the family. Not yet found out whether I'm actually related to Walter Owen, but the tie is there nonetheless and I've always loved Bentley motor cars. I'll own one some day soon, when I have a big enough garage! Second, Subaru. I was a fan of Colin McRae back at the beginning of the nineties when he rallied a Subaru Legacy for Prodrive, and Subaru quickly found the place in my heart left vacant by the demise of the glorious Group B Audi Quattros. Always been a Subaru fan in rallying since, and have had 5 Subaru road cars to date! They're great driver's cars, and none of those 5 have ever needed a visit back to the dealer outside normal servicing - that's the kind of reliability you couldn't hope for in a German car these days, let alone a British one... Finally, Ferrari. I don't particularly like their current road cars that much, but I fell for the unique aura that surrounds the Prancing Horse in terms of racing heritage, and I've always been a Ferrari fan in F1 - a period of far more frustrating mediocrity than glorious domination I might add! |

It has to be Jaguar.
I know they had some quality problems until Ford took them over, but just look at the history and legend that surrounds them, especially the D types at Le Mans. For my weekend car I now run a XJS V12 Convertible - not a sports car as such but must be one of the best grand tourers around. |

Ford, but only through only owning Fords, and them being very good cars for me, A couple of Sierra's and a Mondeo, never had many problems with any of them, none of them were especialy good cars to drive but i consider myself a 'Ford' man now, although i dont currently have a Ford i will buy Ford again.

Hmmm, tricky one really....
I have a strong loyalty, or perhaps commitment would be a better word, to the Dutton marque since I'm now on my 3rd Dutton (Actually my first Dutton again... long story.) I also have quite a fondness for Triumphs although the nearest I get to owning one is our Vincent Hurricane, Spit based kit As far as marques that still exist I suppose I'm quite loyal to Ford, the Hurricane being one of only three vehicles I've owned which has no Ford parts in it. |

Jaguar too. It pains me to see what they make now - although the big saloon is still great.
All engine size, coupled with refinement. |

Lotus - the first car I ever really wanted, and still do, is an original Elan - one of our neighbours had one when I was about 7 or 8 and I still want one NOW.

De Tomaso. No idea why but I've always loved them. Too bad they are out of business.

its funny why I even contemplated doing this thread myself, and voila it is here.
Its funny how manufacturer heritage comes to mind- racing exploits and such.. I love Nissan and always had one, but i love ford's history and many of their cars, but when it comes to working or prepping the cars a GM v8 is nearly bulletproof...but mighty nissan has clawed its way with help form Goshn from what 200billion in debt to a 7 billion profit last year, a phoenix story if i ever heard it from my favorite marque... but alas my passions lie with ferrari and lotus...or does it. Having raced a few different cars of manny makes it is hard to say- funny i always had my best drives in a Dodge... ARRARGh the ten car garage thread was no easier. but i guess they have come up more often so Datsun/Nissan are the colors i would take to battle |

I've basically grown up around Ford cars, so I've developed a default sort of soft spot for them. It's what I drive at the moment.
In all honesty I probably feel more affection for MG's - my dad has a classic MG and when they entered into Touring Car's it just turned up my desire for them even more. An MG will probably be my next car. |

BMW. It's all I've ever owned, and my dream car is a 2002 Turbo. Currently they make nothing that really turns my crank, and my next vehicle will not be one. But if I had tattoo a manufacturers logo on my chest, that'd be it.

For me it's got to be Ford, as I've had on the road an Escort, Capri, Cortina and two transits and I've raced several Escorts, several Granadas a couple of Cortinas and am curently racing an XR2
Mind you Audi's up there as well I had a quattro for 10 years Last edited by silver bullet; 5 Mar 2005 at 12:52. |

German engineering everytime
I've had a thought about the question posed. The only way to go for me is the MkII Golf GTI 16 valver.
Well built, Handles well, easy to work on, fun to drive, and still going strong after all these years! |

SAAB. My parents had six of them and I learned to drive on a 2 liter 99 and a Sonett III.
Both cars wierd enough to be fun. and the Sonett, if it had had some decent rubber would have been phenomenal instead of merely impressive. It could have used another 50 bhp though. Today's SAABs are just not SAABs to me. My mother in law has a new 9-3 and its like a Chevy. |

Porsche, Honda, Ferrari and BMW. Motorsports competition. The lightweight 911s (e.g., '73 RS 2.7 to the 996 GT3RS). For Honda: F1 in the 80s and 90's, ITR, CTR, NSX Type R, S2K and all of their 4 cylinder engines. For Ferrari... it needs no explanation. If you don't understand you CAN'T understand. BMW: M1, E30 M3 and all M5s (up to the latest Bangleization), the 3 and 5 series.
