Richard Burns Rally

Well, in another topic, people are rambling about how good CMR2005 is .

However, there's a much better rally sim out there: Richard Burns Rally. Sure, it doesn't have so many cars (then again, driving those real stages (not fake-highway as in CMRx) with those groupB monsters is asking for trouble ), but it has a sense of "real" that no other rally game has achieved before. I own the game (didn't need to play the demo, I knew it was good ) and find it very very enjoyable. The GPL of rallying it is.

Does anybody else tried it? You can download the demo at www.bhmotorsports.com .

Well I would much rather buy RBR than CMR5, it's much more realistic and has real stages etc.

What kind of stages does RBR have? The box doesn't really give much of a clue.

Are the UK stages 'propper' stages - something like Kielder or Wales? Not like the tarmac rubbish on CMR2005.

Yes it's real that's why I would rather have RBR than the fantasy CMR05.

Yes, the stages are real (even though they're a bit short).
Then again, if they were too long, it'd be too difficult to finish the stages

Does it matter if the stages are real or not?

As long as there's variety, i don't see the problem in having fantasy stages.

Well those tracks weren't real. Real countries, but fictional routes.

Was still fun though.

You can imagine you're doing the real thing if the feel of the cars is right. That's all you really need.

Down Force, for me was the opposite, the RBR is soo gooooooooooooooood while CMR5 was so baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.
Remember chaps, RBR is no ficcional/arcade sh*t like the crappy games from sony and codemasters, it's a real simulator, similar as GPL (but for the road ).

You can't imagine you're doing the Rally GB if most of the stages are run on tarmac, as in CMR2005. There were too many fiddly little junctions and the like for my liking.

It wouldn't do for us all to be the same I suppose.

Just got RBR, and I suck

Only just managed to get to the end of the rally school - think I was about .5 of a second inside the required qualifying time.

It is a very good game though - one of the best I've ever played.

I'm waiting for a realistic rallying sim, with full length stages.
Nothing like a proper challenge

Managed to get the demo last week which is brilliant however i am struggling getting to grips with the pace notes. at least with the CMR way you knew instantly just how quick the corner is. I'm relying on gauging the speed by the visuals of the corner which isnt good.

For those with the full game is there any explination or rally school section for understanding the pace notes.

I will get CMR5 for a bit of fun, but if you want a real, real challenge it has to be RBR.

Using the Logitech GT4 wheel it is immensely difficult, but after a 'lot' of practice you begin to get the hang of it.

Yes, there is a very good rally school section, to show you the ropes, but the pace notes aren't explained all that well in-game - however, the manual does give some explanation, for example:

“Flat Left” Maximum speed Left
“Easy Left” Check your speed, almost flat Left
“Medium Left” Slow down, the corner is getting tight, change down Left

etc.

Well i bought RBR in the desperation of needing a new game and can't really say it's that enjoyable.

It doesn't have feel if you ask me. You can be rolling along quite nicely and suddenly a surge of wheelspin and you roll the car and you're out. It's like they've overdone the car physics to make it seem hard and realistic. It is hard yes, but not that realistic feeling.

Ah well, back to Network Q! Unrealistic cars yes, but those stages are good fun! Still the best rally game out there!

Stop giggling at the back.

RBR is by far the closest to the real thing (and yes I have rallied in everything up to group A cars - though not WRC)
