As I said before expert, give us the facts, then.

No one in Australia has ever heard of him. And I don't think anyone in Europe really has either. If the story was garbage, I'm sure Rob would have been found out. Before you start making accusations, I'd like to see some facts.

I think the situation with Nguyen is quite simple. He tested for Walter Penker, a known talent spotter with Sebring/Remus sponsorship behind him. Walter saw the potential and suggested he race for his team in Formula VW at a discounted rate. Rob did this, had some good results and Penker arranged tests in F3000 where he did well. With backing from Sebring, Rob is now in F3000. Penker did the same thing with Piccini...

sorry Mac, but if you read my post you will notice that I am the one looking for facts... not a story that is just too simple to be true!

thank you Fan for clarifying a bit: at least now we know that it's Sebring paying for the drive, arranged by Walter Penker... that's not quite the same than being "offered" or "arranged" a 2 year deal by astromega, is it?

what happened to piccini, anyway?!? his younger brother giacomo is driving in Formula Renault Monzo (1600cc) in Italy.

I guess that Rob proved that he has the talent as he finished just outside the top 10.He did a good job while attacking and at the same time defending his position, don't you think??
Give him a year,by then he'll be a driver to look out for...

Cheers

Mr Squiggle should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I have been involved in Oz motorsport for years, especially open wheeler classes and I've never heard of the guy.
After some digging all I could find out was he comes from a well to do Vietnamese family from Sydney who paid for his early drives. I can't find where his money is coming from now though.
Wherever it is coming from, thier must be alot of it.

Rob was fastest in Monza official testing !!!!!!
I think the term Rookie must get a new meaning.
He is surprizing me every week...
If he goes on like this than he might score points this season.
How do you rate him after this testing session??

Points??? How about an F1 test ride or testing contract? He is starting to look better than his countryman Briscoe. His progress has been nothing short of spectacular, just so steady and consistent, other than Monaco, where else has he made a mistake? Supposedly gives good technical feedback on top of having prodigious speed, sounds like a good candidate to me.

Of course, testing is testing, but this is the first time he comprehensively beats his teamate, who is no slouch.

I am more impressed by his steadiness and consistency than anything else.

Does he have Flavio's mobile number?

Steve.

Apparently Rob only took the fastest time by jumping the chicane at Monza - so much in the same way that Viktor Maslov was fastest there last year.

Nguyen is still picking at my brain. I cant figure out the missing pieces, he wasnt spectacular in Formula Volkswagen which isnt exactly the cradle of champions; but he's not being a ****er in F3000. Is he being flattered by the experience of Haberfeld in getting the new car setup?

His engineers told me that he had an enormous technical feedback and that he understands the car very well + he seems to be eager to learn the car...and seems to succeed in that.

Gee Russfeld, So he didn't win the championship in Formula Vergnuegen, he had never been in a race car before, not even kart. You can buy a ride but not speed.

IIRC, Jacques Villeneuve was not too impressive in Italian F3 either, but he turned out to be quite a little pedaler. didn't he?

He is my pick for rookie of the year and I think Toyota may be thinking they'd picked the wrong test driver from OZ.

Briscoe's struggling a little at the mo, but he'll come good. He has been quick in the Toyota and Nordic are going through a very bad patch. He'll be fine.

But Nguyen ..... what about him!

I still believe in Briscoe's abilities, but it's nordic's that i doubt of.With Tomas Enge and Wilson gone, they just don't have the same input that they need to get back at the top.it will be Ryan's turn next year, but they should dump Zolt's...

In this note is posted that Rob Nguyen was born in Brisbane, Australia. It will be good to warn DanFlag to add this data in the Teams/Drivers section in F3000.com.
