I don't think BAR will be mixing it with Williams and McLaren, but I'd love to see it!
I would love to see any team other than this years top 4 start challenging the status quo. |

Sorry, but I don't see Renault getting that far. People have been saying for the last three years that Renault are going to be the team to challenge the big three, and Jacques was apparently in talks to join them before resigning with BAR two years ago but he decided to stay with BAR. Loyal he may be, but he isn't stupid - if he' thought that Renault were a better team he would have joined them.
I think Flavio is another reason why they won't get there as well. I know what he did with Benetton but he had the right people there. There's no-one really really good at Renault now, and I don't see how Flav's policy of sacking his quickest driver each year is going to move the team forward either! It would be nice if Mark Webber could challenge some of the top four teams from time to time. That would make us sit up and take notice.

That was why 1997 was one of the best season's recently - 6 different people won races, so even though it was dominated by JV and Schumi there was no guarantee that either was going to win a race.

Reanult did not end the season looking that well. I expected Sauber to fade but not them. In the start of the season they were easily the 4th best and sometimes looked as quick as the Macs. By the mid season they were left behind by Mac. Near seasons end they were slower than teams like Jordan but because of decent reliability and a motor that apparrently sips fuel they were still able to hang in there. The teams that should have done great were just aweful this past season. I feel that BAR and Jag should have at least been on pace with them.

I agree with you Jellybabe, Flav is the problem at Renault. In the Benneton days he had Ross Brawn and Rory Byrne as well as Mickey the Shoe. Maybe he should have gone to Ferrari instead to replace Jean Todt?
