They use Toyotas wind tunnel because it is better than theirs, but that still isn’t the latest tech.
OT: interesting how things develop. McLaren started the whole simulator thing and now that means they are behind. |

The Mercedes one is also not that up to date compared to some rivals.

Kind of wild how he could have up to four contract offers next year - 2 in F1, Maserati in FE and then Toyota.
There is a release clause in his Maserati deal in the event an F1 drive became available so you'd imagine he has the same agreement at Toyota, if indeed he'd even signed anything. Well done to Nyck - talk about grasping your opportunity. |

In their defense, the rules for the class changed a few times while they were building the car. But glad to see them pushing forward with a new design.

This. I thinks it's a bit dicey still to go with a new car, but with 2 years experience under their belt, I'd hope they would be able to put a better foot forward that the other 2023 entrants. |

The advantage of starting 2 years before pretty much everybody else. Gives you chance to see what works and what does not and you can improve.
Even if the category is BOP-ed, operationally the new car from Toyota should be better suited to racing and expecting the others to have similar issues to what Toyota had in first 2 years. |

Update on the new Toyota for 23. It won't be new, but just an update.
https://sportscar365.com/lemans/wec/...tion-for-2023/ Some really interesting comments from Pascal here about how much they can actually change without using any of their joker updates. Lots of things have already been done on the car that didn't count, but he would not say if they have used any of their Jokers or how many. |

But don’t forget to make the performance consistent. Repeatable under different situations. Like the wind tunnel, but the same whatever the track and conditions. This is where the race and the championships will be fought (once they’re all reliable). |

Nice little updates to the car. Diveplanes, rear wing endplates, front and rear brake ducts. Still not the prettiest car in the field but speed does more talking so lets see.

Would be cool if Toyota pushed for their GT500 car to be allowed as a hypercar in the future.

Team Mate Comparison.
So, the champs. How do their drivers compare?
Sebring Average Lap time
Buemi got in a few more quick ones, but other than that it generally didn't matter who was in either car. They even split the driving more evenly than most - the longer race seemed to mean one driver in each car got much more running for a lot of the other teams. Professional. Portimao Average Lap time
Spa Average Lap time
Maybe when we compare to Ferrari we see Ferrari were more consistent on the 5th to 20th best laps - but Toyota didn't have nightmare cold tyre problem. I am just impressed looking at this. What a squad. |

Consistency is key and Toyotas drivers have that. Very good analysis!

Toyota have been at it a long time. I can see why they attract so many top drivers, they've always had that technical superiority and it shows. Plus they offer a good wage packet too...

Honestly, an extremely well oiled machine. They absolutely deserve to reap all the rewards for their investment and commitment. Many naysayers online and some pundits seem to be determined to point the finger and say "They can't get it done with proper competition" but damn. They've been on it and there or thereabouts even while Porsche and Audi were around and in their prime and are now pretty much in the zone with what is a fundamentally compromised car and if we are to believe them, a relatively shoestring budget. I hope they get their flowers, and I can't wait to see how far they go into the future. Into the 2026 hydrogen era even perhaps? |

As is always the case, you can only beat whoever turns up to take you on. The fact that Porsche and Audi ran off and hid doesn't take anything away from their success for me.
