This year (2022) the winning margin between DPi and P2 was 10 laps or roughly 15 mins based on fastest laps times. That's not a lot of time when you have to fight some mechanical issue in the garage. On the other hand, some (many?) of the laps lost can be made up under caution.

Plus IMSA might still decide to peg back the P2s - no way they'll let a non GTP win.

i was thinking about this yesterday, the P2 cars weren't ever really challenging the dpi cars at any track. They have already been paired back compared to original spec for these cars, and not sure they want them much slower with P3 on the grid.

In other news, Mark Kvamme's team MDK has a new Porsche that they would like to run at Daytona and the rest of the endurance rounds. Driver lineup includes a couple of Magnussens.

I imagine similar situation as in WEC

Power tracks - the LMDh will be a lot faster than the the LMP2s (like Hypercars at Le mans) and small twisty tracks the LMP2 will be closer due to their aerodynamic efficiency

Do not expect LMDh to be faster than Hypercars without the BOP - let's remember Hypercar were limited to 670bhb so they can match the LMDh(I believe LMDh manufacturers did not want more power or were not capable of more)

Even at Le Mans - Toyota with 190kmh Hybrid activation was capable of 3:23 in qualifying which is similar to early Audi r18s and Toyota ts030. The stratification will be track based which will be interesting in IMSA as they have more small and twisty tracks - maybe some LMP2s will feature heavily in the races there

No chance LMP2 will be within GTP on pace, it's purely if GTP cars won't last. Do not think those times seen are anywhere near their actual pace at all. They were rumored to be faster than DPi in testing late last season, no chance they magically slowed over the winter. They will be slowed to the Hypercar pacing, pacing NOT Hypercar potential.

Has Paul Miller Racing announced their program for 2023 yet? I would think they will have their car in GTD for next season with Sellers and Snow.

I think Cetilar has said they will be running full season and they are expanding their US presence with multiple products in 23 and 24 so would expect them for at least enduros

LMP3 was added to fill in grid - now it is taking place of potentially good GTD pro and GTD entries that I personally would be more interested in

At the same time just like WEC you need to prioritise full season entries over 1 offs - so if KCMG or any other team wants to make sure they take part - commit for full season

With 56 of the 60 selected being full NAEC entries, it's interesting to figure out who are the 4 Rolex (or 'Florida 36H') guests. The extra Ganassi Cadillac is #1 (and was always guaranteed a spot) and I believe TMG's Pro entry in GTD is another one (and presumably has made the cut due to being a longtime IMSA entrant in MPC). That leaves 2 more, any clues?
