This is becoming a trend.. win the GT Open, and move up to GTWC. Makes sense, they were pretty much the only serious PRO effort in Gt Open last year

In recent years, the GT Open has become a training session before GTWC, and more focused on the Pro-Am roster

Its been that way for most of GT Opens life, its always been a GT feeder series for GTWC and ACO format

And not so long ago, in 2012, about 50 cars arrived at the GT Open season finale.

I recall GT Open being where you could run both GTE and GT3 cars without any restrictions.

Kind of irrelevant now with GTLM/GTE going away. GT World Challenge is going to be a even higher profile now in the 2020's. I think because IMSA and WEC are clearly focusing on prototypes going forward.

Definitely won't hurt the profile of the championship. Will be interesting to see how he goes! He's obviously had a few tests in various things over the years, and by all accounts has been quick in the limited view that they give. Not sure he's done much recently, but there's no real reason he shouldn't be on a fairly decent pace. My German is pretty dodgy, but didn't see any mention of a team mate there - so not sure which class he'll slot in to.

And has done two GT World Challenge Events, when it was still called Blancpain Endurance Series.

IMO this is great news ...... Although I have absolutely no interest in bike racing, I know how much of a superstar & character he is.
This can only raise the profile of the series even more. Fair play to WRT and I really hope that he can do well. I am sure that this will put a few extra people through the door at brands in May!

Ah I'd forgotten the outings he'd had lower down in GT (or further back in the Blancpain days). And yes, it seems fairly likely that he'll end up with some pretty solid Audi factory driver as a team mate! And let's face it, I can't imagine them being short of volunteers for that - even seriously successful racers sometimes get a little bit fanboy-ish about Rossi - not many people have that kind of status. I can't imagine many drivers who wouldn't learn something from him, at least in terms of mindset and approach.

So far only Dinamic have said they will be in GTWC with a pro car, as well as a Pro AM....

I guess last year wasnt exactly wild in GTWC for Porsche, GPX, Dinamic, and Team Allied.

Be nice to see more than one PRO Porsche but seems unlikely

With that flurry of entries, we are at 20 cars for Endurance and still at 8 for sprint.

Plenty more announcements to go, I think we are probably looking at 44-48 entries in Endurance, 20-22 in sprint.

I think the potential trend I’m really curious to see if pans out, is a reduction in the pro class, in favour of Pro Am, Silver, AM etc
