Chevron's Great Race Book

Hey I was just wondering if anyone knows if Chevron are publishing their Great Race Book this year? Usually before Bathurst they are after pre-orders and the advertisements are printed in MRA and other Chevron Magizines. All they have had been trying to sell the 2003 book. I hope they release it so it can be added to my collection. Or will i only be in the new V8 Yearbook published by another publisher. Can someone let me know?

It had better be published! There were six journalists and seemingly hundreds of photographers up there gathering information.

Yes, it will be published - the aim is to have it ready for Christmas. I don't know if we would normally publicise it until we have the cover shot - and that's of the winner.

FYI, I was covering DJR, TD, WPS and Tasman.

So there will be the new yearbook and the traditional "Great Race" book then?

The yearbook is being done by the V8X guys and will be in magazine format - basically a review of the Championship year.

The Great Race is focused on the Bathurst race - it's also a hard-cover book. No reason not to buy both - but if you only buy one - make it the big one! (End of advertisement).

I wasn't intending to criticise V8X - that's not my way. In fact I buy it occasionally - their article on Gore made and interesting comparison with mine in MRA.

Anyway - no I was merely trying to differentiate between the two. Please judge the two publications on their merits.

I spoke to the guys at Chevron in either 2001 or 2002 I can't remember now. As there was supossed to be a V8 Yearbook then. the official website even took orders for it. When I rang up to find out when it was coming out, there were problems with AVESCO and the book wouldn't be coming out.

TC probably tried to shaft the guys at Chevron.

Bruce

With the publishing of a Yearbook, we might have a comprehensive championship coverage once again. However, unless people kept old magazines, there is no decent coverage since the last Chevron yearbook for 1995.

Is there any chance of another book to follow on from Graham Howard and Stewart Wilson's 'ATCC - 25 Fabulous Years'? Perhaps a 'Volume 2' covering from 1986 to the present day?

Mind reader!

No release date as yet but it's in the planning stages. I'd think it would be updated by David Greenhalgh, at a guess.

Seeing as as far as i know the original is out of print, lets hope it is released like the 'Australia's Greatest Motor Race' books were, with the latest information added to the previous info. rather than a completely seperate book.

I'd hate to think how heavy the next edition Aust.GP book might be, it's need to come with an axle and tow ball....

There already is a Volume 2, or updated edition. It is called Australian Touring Car Championship - 30 Fabulous Years, released in 1990.

It would be good to see an updated version up to now, also the Ford & Holden Racing History books would be good updated as well.

Yes yes yes! I have never been able to get a copy of the FORD book, and the only thing I would love more than that one is an updated version!

Great Race contributors this year: Ed Krause, Liz Swanton, David Greenhalgh, Danny Gardner, Jason Parker, Steve Normoyle. And me. And lots of photographers.

We have to get all the words to Chevron this week, for a Christmas publishing.

Bruce.

Really looking forward to this years edition - as I do every year. I'll get my yearly phone call from Drysdale Auto Books in Brisbane sometime before Christmas and be straight down there to collect my copy.

I finally managed to complete the set this year by scoring No.9 on eBay!

Took a while, but all good things come to those who wait......
