dak1111 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Formula Le Mans LMS feeder series

Does anyone have any more up to date info on this new series for 2009, Formula Le Mans. Since the ACO announced it in June there has been very little talk either on 10 Tenths or indeed the internet itself. I read somewhere that the first car has been sold but I can't remember where I saw it.

I think it would be a great support class for the LMS weekend and a way of getting into LMS proper.

The Formula Le Mans Cup is organised by the "Automobile Club de L'Quest" in partnership with highly experienced race car builder, Oreca.

Meetings: Five events supporting the 2009 Le Mans Series, one event supporting the world famous 24 hr Le Mans race and one 4 hr race to complete the season.

Race Format: 2 drivers per car, 1 x free practice, 2 x qualifying, 2 x 1 hour races with one driver change per race.

The Car: Le Mans Prototype "LMP" Carbon fibre/honeycomb monocoque. 480bhp, 6.2ltr V8. Six speed sequential Xtrac gearbox with steering wheel paddle shift. Carbon brakes. Power steering. Michelin or Dunlop tyres.

Circuits: Paul Ricard (2 x tests), Barcelona, Monza, Spa, Nurburgring, Silverstone and Le Mans and Brno.

Brookspeed will be entering their own car in the 2009 FLM Cup and is currently talking to drivers with budgets. Brookspeed would also like to talk to parties looking for a team to run or transport customer cars in the FLM Cup.

the launch of this new series could not have come at a more difficult time when one looks at the global economic environment.

I wish it well but I suspect it will struggle to gain enough traction to work.

I'll reiterate what I've said all along about this idea - what's wrong with VdeV class cars? Why not run a sprint event for them as LMS support?

First off, the cars exist so there's no new big up front expenditure needed; second there are plenty of teams and drivers used to running them; and third, they provide scope for chassis design and development innovation that a one-make series doesn't provide.

Obviously I wish all concerned in this initiative all the best and also, critically, hope they get what they wish out of it, but as canam says, is this really the best time to be launching yet another new series?

Will the Peugeot Spyder cup run next year? This could be taking that place. The cars look much better.

I guess this whole thing was initiated by Oreca so they can sell some more cars.

ScuderiaV8 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
More information has now been released:

http://www.formula-lemans.com/index.html

The car specification only says power comes from a 6.2-litre V8, which would suggest a Chevrolet LS3 engine to me. Series will also form part of the support package at Le Mans and the top 3 in the championship will win tests with LMS teams.

doubt it as the final meeting will be a four hour race and will take place on Monday till Wednesday... Perhaps a wrong date?

Looking at it another way, could the ACO be sort of hedging their bets here? If the economic climate really gets cloudy and the 24 Hours starts to struggle for entries they'll have some ready-made cars available to step into the breach. Not like they haven't done it before (the early 90's), at least this time the cars should be quicker and sound a lot better.

the prices...249,000 € is this a single make formula better buying a GT3 Cup S or a Gallardo Reiter and do the highly competitve FIA GT3, better coverage and sponsorship

It's the running costs and testing that really drive up costs, these are essentially budget P2's.

As stated above, they would also slot into 'LMP3' if 10-15 extra cars were required.

I can't help thinking that JAG and Sarthe might have a point here.

While the back of my mind says there should be enough for a full grid in '09 I can see why a hedge might be appropriate, and at least these cars will still conform to the classic "time and two seats" criteria.

That said, I still wish it wasn't a one make series - different shapes make for a much more entertaining sight...

Thats what I think; the ACO, one of the last bastions of non-spec racing decide to launch a spec series seems a bit odd.

EIther way, having a feeder series like FLM will be a good way to attract drivers to the series, and having tests with P1, P2 and GT2 teams is a good incentive.

Looking at the spec of the car, that wouldn't surprise me at all....

Is that a real LC75 or a "lite" version of the LMP2 chassis?

It looks like a...LMP2.

With the current financial situation I am not sure this series will be a success.
