The score is don't do it basically. A true accident will probably get you a talking to, but no more...if it is particularly heavy then you can expect more.

Jay...glad someone knew what I was talking about!

As far as I'm concerned the score is if you want to have a contact motor sport go banger racing, its a lot cheaper and may suit your idea of racing. If you want good close racing in a good series with a lot comradeship them the DMN series is for you.

If your racing side by side, stay side by side. Why would you want to delibrately move onto a piece of track someone else already occupies. If your cleanly in front , take your line. If your not, be patient and wait the next opportunity.

Minor damage makes the car look shabby, dosen't get repaired during the season and lowers the image of the series. Serious damage probably ends the season early for you. There's enough chance of that happening from mechanical failure to avoid increasing the risk by loosing out on one corner.

I feel I may have painted a bad impression of myself with my inquisitive questions.
Rest assured I am not, nor want to be, a banger racing pikey.

I think its a hard topic to discuss as its very incident specific and depends on peoples perceptions so I'll dip out of this contact debate after starting it (good that eh!)

I look forward to learning from you lot next year

The other thing to remember here is that generally everyone is on a tight budget - unnecessary contact can end up with people missing rounds while they save up their pennies to repair the car. You may be able to gain an extra place thanks to the contact but it could cost someone else the rest of their season.

Scoopjumps, let me put it this way, true fear is looking up Paddock Hill on the opening lap of a rolling start race then closing your eyes and waiting.

In my book, the only contact in racing should be as a result of driver error or mechanical failure. If drivers are honest with themselves, they should know whose corner it is etc. The only problems come when ego doesn't match reality, or if people are prepared to trade bodywork to gain advantage with people who won't or don't want to. I don't think this has been a particualr problem in the DMN, and with a Driving Standards person, should be non existent in 2008.
You just have to accept that you may have left the door open, or the other driver has just outsmarted you - If you can't be honest with yourself I think you can expect a visit from the Driving standards officer.
Nobody in the DMN/Tintops is being scouted for the next generation of F1 drivers - people are there because they enjoy it, usually spending mostly their own money - long may it stay that way ! (apart from spending your own money !)

If you get two stubborn people not willing to give in I expect to lose mirrors, scrape panels and be involved in other shenanigans on track like gently 'pushing' each other wide or deep. I'm certainly expecting some of that when I get my baptism of fire anyway. Thats not foul play to me, thats racecraft at its very extreme as long as its not repeated or dangerous.

I don't agree with the malicious stuff, like when people throw their toys out their pram because they aren't as good as mummy tells them they are and take it out on someone.

I don't want to come across like a hooligan but I'm probably not painting a good picture! As someone who is yet to turn a wheel in any event competitively I shall limit my chatter!
In fairness too you Scoobs it sounds like you are yet to have a race because if so as Bert2 and others have said the one thing above all else that will make you drive a bit more sensible and is the fundamental difference between the 'play for TV cameras professional (well they are paid put it that way) BTCC' is that any bangs you will be footing the bill end off, and it don't matter who's fault it is, this is not an insurance claim on a road car and the bottom line is it hurts the wallet as I know to my cost having wrecked several cars.

I personally gain no gratification at all seeing race cars damaged or wrecked, quite the opposite, it is probably because I have in the past been involved in the industry and do all my own preparation but I tell you this, I would say nearly everyone one of us has the balls to go faster but it is only the wallet holding us back from the total win at all costs commitment.

als post is spot on the touring car boys dont give a monkeys if they wack their cars cos they aint paying for the damage (but they should). all the tv in the world wont give you the buzz of flying into paddock hill bend and wondering if you are going to make it around (as eric falce was implying i guess) what a rush! scoot i can see your line of thinking but just try to look at it this way do you want to repair your car every meeting ....no ...then dont make any one else do it if at all possible. im sure you will enjoy the racing and friendliness from us guys and gals in the DMN CHAMPIONSHIP in 2008. i hope you enjoy yourself in the comming year as that is what its all about...... woody

*cough* This is where those nasty little orange buggers step in (well at least I am one). I, for one, am somebody you (or somebody else) do not want to mess with, as I know all the tricks of the trade (former racer myself you see and sort of DMN's own observer).
So to put it very blunt: don't do silly things on my post when you are out racing. I will get you. And the fun thing is: you never know what post I'm on.
And after that the cotc will get you again.

And no, I do not think you are going to do silly things. I hope you are going to have lots of fun.

Now, I could turn a blind eye if you bring donuts, but I never wrote that.

Woody there are some new door panel stickers being designed, which should help with class identification as well.
