Was'nt to botherd about the Escort not being ready, had bought a Fiesta, all race prepared but hadnt been run for about two years.Got it this morning, put a new battery on it,cranked it over and it fired up,rushed around, new battery, fuel tank off, drained about half litre of water and cleaned, freed off brakes, went to put the car onto the ramp to change oil and filter,at this point I must point out that we have had a new brake testing machine instaled, state of the art, wider rollers, blue tooth the lot, also a lot deeper than the old one,I am now removing the sump tp repair a bloody great hole in it!

Sorry you didn't make it Eric, there was some brilliant racing particularly in the second B,D and E class race. Five cars dicing throughout the race plus lots of battles through the field. Even Les Beer finished although he did find the gravel in the first race.
Pete Thurston joins the broken V8 club....the gearbox gave up! |

I went in early,6am,to get on with the Fiesta,a bloody mot turned up.I thought I was an early riser(well, thats what my wife says)but MOT's just carried on arriving, the girl in the office did'nt turn in so I had to content myself with earning money instead of spending it.
Did miss it though. |

I would just like to say in my defence that the gearbox did have oil in it !!! The same oil since 92 ,not bad for a **** old rover box eh!. I never bother'd with it as everybody told me it would not last with a 5litre engine, well they were wrong,13 yrs without being touched(a bit like my ex wife).pete

i was lucky my gearbox only suffered from a broken external linkage. in fact i was very lucky to finish the race at all, as it broke altogether whilst checking it out here at home, still i suppose thats not too bad after all it had done a zillion miles in a road car before it went into my race car

Yes Graham, that was me! and you thought I was just being friendly, talking to you and giving you abuse! Watch out for the clipboard!!
Unusual to see Pastie man in the gravel. Obviously Leda's 400lb spring were too stiff. Back to the 300lb ones. Suffered major withdrawl syptoms watching everyone play; racing was top dollar. Organising team did a good job, as usual. All you wooses who worried about the rain missed a good day out. Although I apologise for taking my shirt off, to start this year's tan, and scaring the children this early in the year. Full marks to George Newton for re-building the turquoise Fiesta into the black shell in 2 weeks flat! As the Doc has given me the all clear, should be out on 10th July in the new toy @ Brands. Just as long as George can sort my brakes out. |

New axle is ordered, Hauser reckon 3-4 weeks. New wheels ordered to suit, Image reckon 4 weeks. Just as a point, anyone know anyone that has 5-link axle brackets (flat back type) for an Atlas, on the shelf? Have tried a few of the Escort rally boys, but no answers yet. Hope to get the Atlas back from Hauser's, and then back in the car for a shakedown to setup the suspenders soon. I have marked it clearly that it needs oil in it!!! Rob |

Thoughts on Lydden
Just thought I'd pass on a few thoughts.
The Lydden races were superb. The organisers did a great job.My Fiesta didnt launch it's self into a barrel role.George did a brilliant job swapping all the bits from the low flying one into the black one in time for the meeting.Mrs Birley looks loverly in Black and Pete Wilks should be more gentle with little Fiesta's. The strange bloke driving the red Nova needs to use he's mirrors more and G Bahr needs more power. Pete Thurston needs more grip, (thought for the day Pete, Have you tried those tyres with tread on, Might help) Steve Weatherly's move on the last lap down the inside of Paddock was superb especially as I had the best view of all from the marshalls post on the infield. Note to self must remember cossie (swimming not car) and bucket and spade next time.At least then I will get some use from the gravel trap.Champion and Fiesta meister Jason W felt the atraction and tried the paddock bend gravel as well. Cant wait for Croix? |
