Further, and maybe it is the feeling that I have for racing, but it seems a shame that one could go to a random town and stand at the corner of Walk & Don't Walk and get no sense that any of these guys ever raced there.

When I walk Mid-Ohio, I feel as if I am on Honored, if not Hallowed ground, knowing that on this surface raced the likes of multiple Andretti's, Hurley Haywood, Zanardi, JPM, Al Holbert, Peter Gregg, George Follmer, Dario, Shorty, Rahal, Danny Sullivan, Captain Furious (PT), Big and Little Al and yes, Danny Ongais.

Part of the allure in any sport is the history, the charm, the battles, the personalities the intensity of the competition. It is that part which brings a person in and makes them a fan. I mourn the fact that this is being sacrificed on the Altar of Transience so as to facilitate the making of a quick buck.

I'd sign a petition to OWRS asking for Laguna and RA to be put on the 2005 schedule

Maybe you would, camcartfan, but would you sign a cheque for the multi-millions needed to put that into place?

If I were a millionaire sporting events promoter and the deal was right, I would. Obviously. Maybe the deal's not right, but OWRS needs a few more venues and these two tracks are available and quick fixes for the 2005 schedule.

I'm hoping the Laguna Seca race will happen. It is one of my favorite tracks. I know they can't keep running there, if they keep losing money. It would be a shame to loose this track. Of course, I'm looking at this with totally selfish reasons.

I will be going to San Jose, though. But it won't be the same. A flat, 1.3 mile, concrete canyon, just doesn't have the same flavor. I am glad they added another west coast race. One advantage, I can walk around the entire track, in about a half hour. It looks like there will be some great photo possibilities.

Another point of view is that they are heavily biased on the west coast and absent from the east coast. Although, I welcome a good TV event over a bad track at city near me any day.

Sadly, when you compare the 2005 schedules for Champcar and ALMS, if I were driving at this level, I'd try harder to find an ALMS ride...

The ALMS drivers would probably have an easier time finding a Grand-Am ride.
The grass is always greener......
KK is a double edged sword, if it don`t make money....but on the other hand, the series will be around for a while. I`m hoping all these decisions are short term compromises.

Me too.....I hope that Champcar in the future will become so profitable to race at places like this only if it's a break even or slight loss.....the other events will make up for it! *crosses fingers*

A shame to lose Laguna Seca, no doubt. One of the best tracks to see on-board shots of, (especially the Corkscrew), if not the best for racing...still good though!

Also the scene of the highest a Champcar has ever been (2001...Gidley)...and the second highest too! (Carpentier...over fence!)

What IS it about that place and air!

Anyway, I hope this is just Au Revoir, not goodbye!

Why don't they join forces with US superbike?
They won't drop their deal with Moto-gp at Laguna for them, (last year they had 92.000 people when they teamed up with Superbike world championship), but maybe as a 2nd deal. The superbikes also race at tracks at which CC imo should be present/or needs to do better than they currently do, like Fontana Elkhart lake and Mid-Ohio.

Edit: and i don't mean a deal like they have at vegas, where they have to pay and don't get anything of the action. I am thinking splitting the costs of promotion, tv-expenses and track-rental (which saves both 50%), and attract more people (which is better for both). Any profit will be split.

The way a track is set-up safety wise for motorbikes is often different to how it needs to be for cars.

There would be a strange atmosphere, between the Champ Car fans and the two wheel fans.

But why not with ALMS?

Yes, why not with ALMS. I know they have had their differences, in the past. Wouldn't a Champ Car, ALMS double header, at Laguna Seca, be great? I'd go in a heartbeat.

They used to do the IMSA GT's and CART on the same weekend. It was awesome. That is how they could get the crowds back...ChampCar+ALMS in September.

Losing this race + the other natural road courses really puts a damper on my enthusiasm. What a bummer.

ALMS/Champ Car may work if one headlined Saturday and the other Sunday.

There was a period when the two championships joined at race meetings, I think Miami in '03 was the last time it happened.

Have the Champ Car's race mid-afternoon and have the ALMS race into the dusk... yes, I'm dreaming I know.

I think a ALMS/Champ double bill would be a big draw, but I don't see that happening.

I have no idea of the politics surrounding ALMS/CC, so could you explain why it probably won't happen? At this moment I see only benefits for all parties involved.

The politics are surrounding the Miami races. ALMS were provided no reasonable paddock space nor any significant exposure for the event, when they had been sold on "co-headlining" the event (and which they had initiated).

ALMS is already slated to run Saturday night.

I don't see them allowing Champcar to join them without quid pro quo. Long Beach?
