[iV8SC13R29] SuperCheap Auto Bathurst 1000 (WITH POLL) - 10-13 Oct
Bathurst is a curiosity. This country circuit is unique. You can’t manufacture the essence of Bathurst – it just works and for nearly half a century the great race has been etched in our national psyche. It’s a fair dinkum Australian tale.
And again, it is here. The 1,000km endurance event that will separate the men from the boys, that will show the world who has their act together with driver selection, with car speed, with preparation, with pit stops, with strategy, with luck... The Mountain is calling. Only 4 short weeks away and it will be done and run... What did we learn from Sandown? That 888 can win from anywhere, that they make silly decisions in their garage and still manage to get the effluent back in the bovine to win... in a 1-2... emphatically! FPR have speed to burn too... but no concept of luck, or good strategy or execution of that strategy. HRT have drivers who can push the envelope, not of speed necessarily but on the strength of their VF’s door panels, their bonnets, their bumpers, their fuel cell covers. Its their way of battling away from the midfield. The rest are still bit players, the GRMs, the Erebuses, the Teknos, the DJRs, the LDMs, the Nismos.. each has talent in particular areas but are not 100% complete... lacking car speed, strategy, luck, co-driver speed, or sometimes a combination of all. Its nearly here. How excitement! Make your choice in the poll please... Last edited by GTRMagic; 15 Sep 2013 at 11:04. |

Logically (and in reality), I've locked in Whincup and Dumbrell to 'do the double'. Both are at the top of their game, in the best car in the field. Game, set, match.
In my heart, I'd love to see the 22 win. I despise HRT with every fibre of my being, but it would be a good redemption story for both drivers to knock off a Bathurst - and they've both got the talent to give car 1 a shake. 2, 888, 5, 6, 55, 33, 14, 8, 97 and 12 will also be somewhere in there. Judging by today's showing, 4 and 47 wont be too far adrift either. |

And a great showing today from the 34. The Frenchman has some speed after all...

As much as I hate it, it appears to be between the 2 888 cars. Whincup would be favorite, but I'm hoping not. Would love to see Chaz win, but not expecting it although top 5 possible,

Bathurst will be another boring race where the 888 steamroller smashes everyone. With Whincup/Dumbrell winning at a canter just like Sandown. FPR will have the pace to run with 888 but will shoot themselves in bothe feet, possible an arma and probably the face with pit/strategy stuffups, just like the last 5-10 years.

The ticket prices are expensive.
The grog is expensive. The food is expensive. We have to watch from Hell Corner behind the new gorilla cage. There are not enough support categories. It can be hot, cold, dusty, muddy, or windy. You have to get up at 4am on Sunday to get a decent spot. And sit out in whatever the weather gods throw at you, ALL day. But I can't wait. 17th year for me this year..... |

So flavour of the month is Whincup/Dumbrell, but this is 10o0ks flat chat all day , plus traffic is some parts is a bit more tricky than sandown, and as it is bathurst, some of the minor teams might suprise a few at the end of the day.
who would have thought Dave Renolyds last year chasing JW, could happen again this year with some of the others, Sandown is a , as waffled by the talking heads the guide to Bathurst, maybe, but Bathurst has be known to throw up anything, even P Brock would atest to that. So look out for a few smaller teams and the some late sefety cars to make it a mad 20 lap dash to the end |

#12 to be the "rookie FPR driver to put on a good showing" award winner for 2013??
Both had reasonable drives in the 500 with Wood handing it over to Mostert in a handy position, if it wasn't for the speeding penalty they should of been up there.. They also lost a place to a nice tap by Webb on the last corner of the race |

Looking forward.
Voted for Whincup/Dumbrell, but hope for another brand or at least team to win the race. |

Our costs are fairly cheap- about $500 each for the full 10 days of BS, beer & great tucker ( BIG thanks to Drew & Pistol) Right about the hot/cold/dusty/etc. I wonder if the race being a week later will make it any warmer? And 4 AM on a Sunday? I stake out the 'corporate box' at Mcphillamy on the Friday arvo of the weekend before the race. This will be my 20th year. Can't wait. |

Whispers from SEQ way suggest that perhaps a second wildcard is being prepared for the Bathurst 1000 race.
The story goes that the car in question is to be liveried similarly but not quite the same as the #10 entry, and that pilots may or may not have been secured to steer. Surely they couldnt run 2x 888 cars from Skaife Racing and Team Ludo at the bottom end of pitlane? or could they ?? Presuming any of this actually happened |

Crikey, I wonder where they would get the staff from to do all of this for a one off?

Interesting. I guess they have the chassis previously used by Whincup sitting around. Any chance there could be a driver shuffle here?
