Starting with 18 hours 57 min and 50 seconds left into the race on Eurosport 2, Liz Halliday does mention how the GT cars are supposed to use "indicators", but usually don't.

One thing the ACO should consider is increasing safety in "kinks".
We saw Rockenfeller's accident last year in a kink on the Indy straight and we saw Davidson's accident this year in a kink at the end of the Mulsanne. What needs to happen is they need to station Flag Marshals at these kinks. I the day time the marshals can wave the bluse flags at the GT cars indicating for them to stay on the outside line. At night there can be a signal board with blue lights that flash. The issue at night being can the marshals stationed there even know whether its an LMP or a GT car. |

There are flag boards/marshals immediately before those points, especially just after Mulsanne corner. That's why the ACO benched Kauffman after Rocky's run-in with him; he was asked to stand down for the rest of the race after LMP and GT drivers and marshals repeatedly reported that he ignored blue flags/light boards.

There is a flag box (which includes blue) before the kink Rocky crashed at.

1. GT cars should have yellow headlights, LMP's have white. Therefore in the dark, you can determine what cars are coming towards you. 2. The blue flag is ADVISORY, not an instruction. It is to make aware that a faster car wishes to overtake a slower car, and it is for the car doing the overtaking to complete the manoeuvre in a safe manner for all. And that includes taking into account the speed differences between the classes as well. 3. EVERY poste has a full set of ALL of the flags. 4. Electronic night time flags do exist already at key locations, and I believe is being expanded to the whole circuit. But this costs money, and I guess the ACO may be 'slow' to pay out all that money for a circuit that is used only once a year. |
