The Deltawing isn't using center lock front wheels.

I think Audi has taken the decision whether or not to go for pole from Toyota...there's no way Toyota is getting to these kind of lap times.

Those of you in the UK the Audi movie is on Sky Sports 3 at the moment. will be repeated over the next few days or so.

Also on an unrelated note, highlights of the Nurburgring 24 hours are being shown over the week as well.

Also Toyota #7 was smoking, did that have an engine problem as well?

No, I don't think so. It did that all afternoon, the car seems to be bottoming out quite heavily in the Esses.

Yeah I found that hard to believe too. Are Nissan not allowed to use center locking wheels then?

Yes they could but that type of setup would weigh more. You have the remember that the concept is to have most of the weight at the rear.

Furthermore, the front wheels will not have to be changed that often.

I believe the decision was because if you run the centre lock wheels you need a safety pin mechanism on the hub to stop the nut from coming off if it becomes loose and it was heavier than using the 3 nut set up. Plus they don't seem to wear the front tyres much so id imagine they will only change front tyres 4-6 times over the race.

Gil Abobeleira should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Don't forget that the ACO/FIA has a lot of information regarding the first practice session at the following site: http://fiawec.alkamelsystems.com/Res...ee%20Practice/

The Audi's were clocking 12 lap stints (except for the #2...) from the off, while the longest stint from Toyota (and one of the Rebellions) was 11 laps.

The timing data of the first session is available at http://fiawec.alkamelsystems.com/

The ideal lap time is always an interesting indicator for qualifying:
  • Audi #1: 3:24.798
  • Audi #2: 3:26.319
  • Audi #3: 3:26.613
  • Toyota #7: 3:26.808
  • Audi #4: 3:27.073
Toyota still dominates on top speed (332.1 km/h). However it seems that the #4 Audi tested a setup with a bit less drag than the other Audis (329.1 km/h).

I am pleasantly surprised to see that the fastest lap of the #7 Toyota was set by Nakajima (3:28.421) and not by Wurz (3:28.459) like I expected.

Toyota is still hiding how many laps they can do on a full tank. The longest stint for the #7 car was 10 laps, while all Audis did one or more 12 lap stints.

The first stint of Nakajima is only 10 laps: lap 20 is his out lap and lap 29 is his in lap.

Audi has changed the front end bodywork on at least two cars (one ultra and one e-tron) during qualifying. Why are they doing it?
