Motorsport TV Guide for Australian FTA and Pay TV
I was having a look around the TV guides the other day and found that, although it's Summer, there is a heck of a lot of motorsport on TV at the moment! I put it all into a table and thought others might be interested in seeing/using it. It covers all the free to air digital channels and the sports channels on Austar (and presumably Foxtel). Keep in mind that this is all done using Queensland guides.
Would anyone like to (or like me to) do this on a regular basis? If so, are there any suggestions? Formatting of the table, etc? All times in AEST (adjust 1 hour for Daylight Savings) Sunday, 27 December 2009 Monday, 28 December 2009 Tuesday, 29 December 2009 Wednesday, 30 December 2009 Thursday, 31 December 2009 Friday, 1 January 2010 Saturday, 2 January 2010 |

Of course for those of you who like their motorsport live you can always go out for a night at the skids.
This is speedway season and I can be found at Avalon most Saturday nights.... |

You could add some more to that- for example if you're going to include Top Gear, BBC Knowledge show it at least daily.
Discovery Turbo also has Fifth Gear if you're interested. Otherwise, top job champ. |

Excellent job that man! Maybe others can drop in a note when they become aware of a story that might make it's way onto the nightly news (assuming this will occurr other than on race weekends for the V8s) and maybe even on kids shows for the young ones.
You could almost call Discovery Turbo a 24 hour motoring show of sorts, some of it even interesting! . I think there are some days worth of top and 5th gear coming over the break. Again well done Will! Please continue! |

Be careful punlishing the info like this though - Foxtel do NOT like or take lying down, the re-use of 'their' program informaiton without their permission (someone contact the Green Guide in Melbourne and ask them why they stopped printing Pay TV guides some time ago....threats of law suits quickly stopped them publishing this info - it IS covered by © - that's copyright for those that can't see the symbol)

No - they chase people and organisations that reproduce their program listings. Like I said Paul - talk to someone on the Green Guide and find out why their Pay TV listings only lasted for 2 (or was it 3?) weeks and then got stopped.
The old man actively tried to get motorsport information from Foxtel abot 5-6 years ago to use on one of his web sites and was denied permission - in fact he was threatened with legal action IF he published the information without their written consent - which was specifically denied to him both in an email and a follow up solicitors letter.... |

That's quite disappointing to hear. In that case, I might refrain from publishing any more Foxtel-owned channel listings. So no more Fox Sports or FUEL TV channel listings, or any from the set of Discovery Channels as they are operated by a Foxtel company in Australia. However, neither ESPN Australia nor Eurosport are owned/operated by Foxtel, so I'll keep listing motorsport on those channels unless I am advised to do the contrary.
It's a shame, really. You wouldn't think that Foxtel would frown on having essentially free advertising to potentially entice new customers to their service. I guess it must make sense to someone. Oh well... |

Check with them - they may (or mau not) have changed their attitude.
The simplest way to check is by way of any copyright noticve ontheir web site. This part aside though, the cut and paste you originally did IS likely to cause problems (it is their design and, therefore, subject to copyright) |

From a site management point of view, I think we need to know a little more about the copyright side of this before you to continue. I appreciate the effort you have, and are prepared to, put in to provide this information, but as others have suggested taking information from listings is usually restricted - I believe newspapers in this country pay to reproduce guides and I wouldn't be at all surprised if that were the same in Australia.
On a side note, this ought to be in Armchair forum anyway, but I know we can't encourage you all to visit there... William, thank you for what you have done, but I will raise the issue with staff for discussion. Only if we are certain there is no breach of copyright can we allow it to continue. In the meantime, I will reluctantly close this thread. |
