Avon slicks
Just been working on my car and found that the ns rear tyre's worn down to the rubber under the depth "pimple" on the inner one.question is how much rubber's left before it's through to the canvas? I hadn't reckoned on buying new tyres after three meetings! Another Q is can I change just the worst one for new?

Don't see why you can't run with one new tyre. Providing that the compounds are the same and the OSR is not to badly worn.

You can get batch variation, which can be reallly confusing when it happens (Mate with a durometer helped me on that one), so I always buy per axle. At least that way it is the same left to right

you can always swap them left to right (ok this time that one sounds dead) obvisouly u have to take them off the rims and swap the direction round!

I'd like to say that it was intentional (drifting) but I think/hope it was because the tyres were shot. Mind you I have previously been told off not looking after my tyres by my Guru but changing my driving style is proving to be difficult (I come from a rallycross/autocross and small oval background). Any tips??

Short answer is, anything that will get him into the 54s......
I guess, if budget is important, driving style. As was demonstrated perfectly in Monaco, a different driving style can result in lower tyre wear AND a faster lap time. If the tyre budget is not important, then change nothing... except the tyres more often.... Are you the tyre sponsor, Eric? |
