Well that’s real bad luck. Probably wouldn’t happen again if you redid the race a thousand times

If interested here is the gap to the leader.
It's around lap 250 that you can see #8 starting to slip away from #7. Then around 310 when #7 starts losing a little time as it manages its problem. Up to that point we see a pretty steady lead build by the Toyotas. With the gradient easing a little. Perhaps as Toyota takes it a little easier with their lead, perhaps as the others settle into the race. The SC periods are pretty obvious as the gap temporarily shoots up. |

LMP2 Gap to leader
Now for LMP2.
Chose the top 3 and the top 5 cars that were in the top 5 the most. Along with #26. The thing that sticks out the most is that the pitstop spikes are more disruptive due to the scale. Interesting the periods where the leader was slowly being caught from lap 260 ish on. #41 finishing position not shown as it didn't. And #28 and #31 have a sudden drop when it goes out. Note the laps that #26 led. |

my utterly esoteric factual observation is that the top 5 finished in race number order. In all 3 groups of 5 cars finished in ascending race number order.
Added together, 7,8,36,708 and 709 make 1468, a number whose digits also ascend. The only ascending group of 5 on the grid were the last 5, whose total descends. I’ve not quadruple checked any of this, so, if I’m in error, please be kind. Actually just be kind anyway. |

Who did the most laps?
It's a tie.
Impressive from Da Costa and Stevens. They put in the hard yards. Unlucky for Floersch and Gomes. Everyone was safe, which is the main thing. Class leaders, highest sliver in LMP2 and bronze in LMP2 and GTE-Am are highlighted.

GTE Am Gap to leader
Gap to the leader for GTE-Am.
Top 3 shown and the other 2 that were mainly in the top 5 in the race. You can see the ebbing and flowing in this class as different drivers are in the car. |

On the drivers in GTE-Am the second chart looks at the three bronze drivers in the top 3 at the end of the race.
The chart shows the average lap time of each driver and how that develops by their fastest laps. i.e. who is more consistent. In this you can see that MASTRONARDI had the fastest lap, and he was quickest over the best 66 laps each driver had. Over the best 67 Keating becomes quickest, although this could well be down to how many laps they did with slow zones, FCY, SC etc... Before the race I looked at who was the quickest of the bronze drivers, saying that it will be the pace of the bronze driver that decides this race. Not this time! Looking at this #83 had the weakest bronze, but won the class. Although, PERRODO did do less laps under green than the others. Also looked at the comparison of the drivers in the winning #83. NIELSEN (Gold) was fastest, more consistent, and did the most laps. ROVERA (Silver) having a similar number of green laps compared to PERRODO (Bronze). Bronze comparison:

GTE-Pro Gap to Leader
Last class for this.
Not much to say, other than it was close. The chart shows the period in the night where the Ferrari #51 and the Corvette and other Ferrari were completely out of sync. on pitstops. Around halfway the #52 fell out of contention with its rear suspension problem. https://sportscar365.com/lemans/wec/...-hits-trouble/ When there was clean running the Porsches just fell behind at about 30s per hour. |

Car #26 Driver comparison
Now the 10-10ths car.
Unsurprisingly, the world champion Nick de Vries was the quickest and most consistent. Colapinto has the edge if you look at top 20, or so, fastest laps. However the more laps you add into the average the Rusinov becomes on par with him. Obviously, this doesn't correct for when the running was and the conditions.

just have to say thanks for the stats, adam. superb work.
in some of those gap to leader graphs you can really see where either everyone had their dramas, or gte-pro, where you didn't stand a chance unless you were almost flawless. if colapinto comes back next year he'll be superb. presumably by then he won't be a hero silver any more though. and i think people are sleeping on yi yifei. can't remember if their race was vaguely clean enough to make it valid but do you have a teammate comparison for the united albuquerque/scherer/hanson car? i'm curious to see whether my hunch there was true or not! |

22 driver comparison
Thanks.
These are just numbers. Good to hear things that back-up (or go against) the data too. Here is #22. Go Hanson! And recognised by the team as he got more laps. Presumably? Although that does give you a bit more opportunity to bring the average of your top 50 down, I suppose. Don't think that is happening here. They are more evenly matched than most cars, especially when you look over many laps.

41 Driver Comparison
As you mention it, here is car #41.
Yifei Ye is very impressive. Shame he isn't racing at Zandvoort Deletraz was faster than Kubica, but over their respective best 50 laps their average was similar. Actually from the best around the best 10.

BTW. Racecar Engineering do a similar thing to the above in their race review. Very good it is too.
They have a driver view and a car view. I might set-up a car view, but I was more interested in some of those Am drivers or lower graded drivers and the impact of their driving on the result rather than the out and out fast guys. However, your queries about specific hot shoes have piqued my interest. |

the youngins tend to get lost in the shorter 4 hour races because of how the new tyres are dished out. it seems far more democratic during the 24, so aside from the obvious "whoever's doing happy hour is going to be fastest" thing it's pretty interesting to see how their pace averages out.
i'm somewhere between surprised and not at all surprised to see how close to deletraz kubica was. yifei seems well regarded in the paddock and i can see why. that's some performance. i also thought that scherer would be a lot slower than he was, so fair play, i stand corrected! felt that he was perhaps the weak link but bizarrely that seems to have been albuquerque? It would be good to correlate some of this with track conditions, happy hour etc… do too much of this kind of crap in the day job! I’ll look to do though.
Great to bring the numbers and the experience together. What it doesn’t show is that you might want your best driver out there in the tricky conditions and in this view it would not help. Although the way the race panned out I think that it is a good fair view of most cars. |

Scherer did a very good job IMO. Ye stood out for me (along with Franco for his speed and Ferdy) in the AsLMS when I first saw them. There are some very good young drivers coming through.

Albuquerque was off-pace all race week, even before the qualifying jumble, although he was noticeably slower after that happened. He's been riding the crest of a wave for a year plus though; everyone has their down days eventually. |

Could I request the #28 Adam when you have a moment.
Albuquerque had a really tough opening stint on the inters. Basically stuck it in reverse. That opening portion of the race will bring his top 50 down I'd assume. P2 really delivered for me this year and that 'in the shop window' sub plot definitely added an extra dimension. I felt doubly sorry for Ye, inevitably losing that silver rating next year AND not getting the win. But I'm sure he's not going to need that ranking to get drives going forward. |

This gives some idea:
Albuquerque might of had 50 good condition laps after his first stint. However, only just so they all had to count in this measure. And how many had lots of traffic and slow zones? It is also clear that his second stint wasn't straight forward. Although it is worth mentioning the 10 lap average is 0.4s down too. Blomqvist did really well v. Vandoorne, who is no slouch.

Cheers Adam! Impressive from Blomqvist.

hubauto porsche photo has a very nice angle.
My best wishes to the team, ACO stained it self of a big big shame surrendering to chinese tencent pressures and forcing hubauto to remove taiwanese flag from their car. It's quite unaceptable winnie the pooh influence may spread that far including events completely unrelated to politic. |
