A Zetec engine is cheap but its **** to drive you can not beat a Kent for serious fun,A good Zetec can do the same times as a good Kent round Anglesey but to me the Kent is more rewarding to drive he says with rose tinted glasses.

mattray's suggestion of F1600 is I believe the route to take. Ford as I understand it have passed the manufacturing writes of all Kent parts to Sky Ford a dealer in Hemel Hempstead, we are at there mercy as far as cost, quality and supply is concerned.
We need to have the support of all FF1600 competitors and engine builders and change the technical regs to alow the use of alternative components, which we could control i.e camshafts and cranks. Not only could our engines last longer but we could control the price, as I am sure we could get a deal on large quantites. Over to Club 1600 I think........... |

Still all isn't lost John.
FF1800 can still be a step on the ladder to FF1600 |

All right, I'm going to let my ignorance show (not for the first time cries a voice from the back )
If your current cranks are not made from "steel", what are they made from? Regards Jim |

It's been a long time since I looked closely at a FF1600 engine, but if the major source of breakage is bottoming the flywheel how about changing to a smaller diameter flywheel?? (OK and ring gear, relocate starter, maybe smaller clutch.... I'll get me coat )

It's not just the cost of the crank, but when the crank lets go, it usually takes out the block, some rods, pistons, cam, sump pan etc. If your lucky, the head will be ok though!

How many of you change the crank at every rebuild ? or at least get it checked.
Do you have that many let go Oulton? Is this a recent problem? Are there many kerbs? |

When I have had rebuilds the crank has always been scraped.
