Formula 1 1984-1988: it's all about fuel consumption

From 1984 to 1988 the fuel consumption became a very important issue in Formula 1, as the FIA used restriction to fuel consumption to reduce the power the turbo engines produced. Yesterday I watched the 1986 German Grand Prix. Some drivers including Alain Prost, Keke Rosberg and Ayrton Senna, run out of fuel in the last lap.

I think that the races from that era were more exciting and less predictable than nowadays' races. But as I watched a couple of DVDs with BBC's Grand Prix from that era I heard James Hunt talking about the fuel regulations and he said some of his colleagues and most fans didn't like the rules

Could anyone of that time tell how the fans felt about the fuel regulations and, if possible, post articles from that time about the fuel regulations?

Thanks!

I think it prompted Rosberg to quit, I thought it was great shame about the regulations but at the time the cars were simply to powerful and the FIA had to do something, the easiest way was to limit the fuel.

Which is why I can't understand why don't they limit power with fuel consumption! Much better than imposing ever smaller engines, which scream past 19.000 RPM... Stupid, just stupid Max!
