2004 IRL Top 10
Because things are a bit quiet on here right now, I'd be interested to see how you would rate the IRL drivers over 2004, based on results, luck, equipment, team support and past experience. Just to get us started, my list would eb something like:
1 Kanaan 2 Castroneves 3 Rice 4 Wheldon 5 Hornish 6 Fernandez 7 Meira 8 Barron 9 Manning 10 Bell |

I think I would put Wheldon above Rice and maybe AF above Hornish.
I don't think I'd have Bell in my top 10, either. I'd probably put Dario there (perhaps in 9th, above Manning). So mine would look like this..... Tony Helio Wheldon Rice Adrian Hornish Meira Dario Barron Manning |

What about Mark Taylor?? He was knocking on the top-ten and getting close?? Not all the accidents were his fault!!

There's no way Mark Taylor is anywhere near the guys listed in the top tens here.
Maybe next year! |

Interesting set of lists so far, thanks guys. Intereting that my selections seem to be the least patriotic of all. I didn't include Dario because I felt he was too far behind the two leading drivers on his team for most of the season, and that he might be better off with some more road-racing in future, as he's not quite as good on ovals. As for placing Rice above Wheldon, I was impressed with how Buddy came into the team late under difficult circumstances, and immediately adjusted to the challenge having sat out the latter part of 2003 and not having experience of Honda engines before.

Kanaan - What can you say? What a year.
Rice - As mentioned, came into the team as a sub, but showed everyone what he is really mde of and had an amazing year, nearly the Champ... but I'm sure his win at Indy makes up for that Wheldon - Bit of a breakout year for Dan, some questions about him last year but this year he proved he can deliver, won a few races and again nearly the champ too... Fernandez - He came in one race late, with very little time to prepare...but still got a few wins in. Such a shame it looks like he won't be a full time runner next year... Meria - Again, somewhat of a breakout year for this man, came close to taking a win here and there but proved still to be very fast, taking a few "fastest lap of the race" honours. I expect him to take his maiden win next year. Well thats my top five...these are the five that have impressed me the most this year, most of the others deserve a mention for some performances, but these five are the standouts in my book... |

Here's my picks:
1-Takagi, dohh! You said the TOP 10, sorry... 1-Kannan, he had the best year I think I've ever seen 2-Rice, very racy, very daring, and very exciting 3-Wheldon, was always in the hunt 4-Fernandez, started slowly, but man, what a finish to the year 5-Castroneves, the best of the Toyota drivers 6-Franchitti 7-Hornish 8-Barron 9-Meira 10-Herta |
