GTWC 2024

As is normal for the SPA 24 hours event SRO have released the calendars for 2024. We are heading to Saudi Arabia!

What is going on with Silverstone though? No WEC or GTWC

Who knows Larsen. I keep asking every year and there is never any real answer beyond Brexit. Its a shame because i used to like attending the Endurance round over the sprint round because you get more cars on track, Lamborghini Super Trofeo, Formula Renault/Regional however it did often feel like i was the only one there...

It seems the Saudi Arabia race is subsidised by the Saudi Arabian side which is good for teams. I just hope that Ratel is not chasing the money and planning to reduce the amount of European races because honestly, the middle eastern tracks are not all that exciting.

I'd prefer the UK Sprint round to be at Donington if Enduramce is never coming back!

The current Brands deal is until 2025, which will be its 11th anniversary. Who knows what will happen next but I wouldn’t consider Donington to be all too unlikely, owning to it being another MSV circuit and clearly SRO has a strong relationship with them with multiple British GT rounds as well.

Incredibly, it’s currently the only international meeting left in the UK (F1 aside).

Well, there's MotoGP at Silverstone, World Superbikes at Donington Park, and Nascar Euro Series at Brands Hatch.

Not to mention historic racing.

I’ll rephrase it then: major, modern international car racing

There’s actually very little international historic racing in the UK post-Covid and post-Brexit. Many competitors don’t come over, let alone the championships that used to visit. And the Masters series are very much struggling.

2019 and years prior had DTM, WEC, ELMS, GTWC Sprint and Enduro (plus supports), International GT Open…

Anyway, I digress. I quite like the GTWC calendar for next year, if I ignore Paul Ricard as the season opener. Great to see Magny-Cours back, Hockenheim/Nurburgring double-header is cool, and we still have Monza. There’s also a shorter gap between the first two Sprint rounds, Brands and Misano, which is better than the months-long hiatus this year.

I also quite like Jeddah as a circuit…I think having 50 GT3s there will be pretty spectacular, and the later finish to the season is nice too.
