ALMS Round 3: Long Beach, April 18-20, 2008
Since the event schedule:
http://www.imsaracing.net/2008/event...upp%20Regs.pdf and entry list: http://www.imsaracing.net/2008/event...%20Entries.pdf are now posted in the IMSAracing.net site, I thought I'd pass them on and get a thread started for the Long Beach Race. Entry list has Autocon back but loses van der Steuer, so still 29 entrants. DK |

Autocon had already announced they'd run just Long Beach then head off to prepare for Le Mans.
The Bear implies that Van der Steur wont appear again until after Le Mans. |

I'm sure this entry list will get some refining as time goes on but there are some interesting points. Autocon brings their strongest driver lineup in a long time with Lewis and Drissi. Not saying it will make them fast, but it might make them less slow. The Drayson-Barwell Aston is still listed as the DBRS9. The team had originally intended to debut the Vantage V8 at LB - delays, or just waiting for confirmation before updating the entry? Initially the F-L Porsche was listed as TBA twins for both this and St. Pete but have reverted to the previously announced (strong) Werner/Basseng pairing. Meanwhile Vici had listed Stanton/Swartzbaugh but has now reverted to TBA twins. Hmm...

De Ferran has only got his car, if indeed it has arrived yet. I would not expect him before Miller and frankly that will be a stretch. This is all expected given his statements.
No surprise on no 2nd Farnbacher car, I think that will be a stretch. 2nd VICI car, well, they seem to have funding and are trying to source it, but I can't see them officially entering a chassis that they don't yet possess. Why pay? |

According to this, there is a second car at VICI, that might be ready for Sebring:
http://www.planetlemans.com/2008/04/...n-vici-racing/ "In a press release the two Dutch drivers confirmed today that they will be driving a VICI Racing Porsche 997 GT3 RSR at the Florida street course." Hopefully it will be ready... |

That's what I was making reference to, it's been discussed in the St. Pete thread.

I seem to recall that de Ferran was going to appear Mid-Ohio at best. Maybe later.

During St. Pete, HPD said that de Ferran Motorsports will be at SLC. While Gil a little while later, and unrelated to, was a little less committal to where they would debut. Tafel #73 will be back at SLC with Jim Tafel and, if the poop is pure, A. Figge at the wheel.

Should be a good race, but why no live TV coverage? For shame.

St. Pete was not edited for time. It was a shorter race so it could be broadcast live, except to the West Coast, because it would have interfered with Disney kid programming. Long Beach is a shorter race, too.
St. Pete looked butchered because the director s*cks. Last edited by porsche45; 10 Apr 2008 at 00:08. |

The race began at 1:25pm but the coverage did not start until 1:30pm. Then, the first 15 minutes of the broadcast was pre-race build up and interviews, so the race did not actually begin being broadcast until 1:45pm. And it ended live at 3:20pm, so they lost 20 minutes towards the beginning of the race (which was only 1 hour 55 minutes to begin with!).

And this 20 minutes does not include the excessive commercial time that we were subjected to. And furthermore the race was not even broadcast in HD. My point is that ABC needs to step up their program for Long Beach. I love the ALMS, and to see their races not given the coverage that they deserve is a disservice.

They took care of quite a bit of the commercials during caution, so it wasn't so bad in that respect. And I don't know, I didn't find the coverage particularly choppy. Can't help you on the HD, I don't know that I even see well enough for it to make a difference.

At least they're not showing the races at the same time. The HD situation last week had me scratching my head though.

I am not sure why it wasn't in HD, it was in 480p, still looked good, very clear compared to compressed 480p provided by Direct TV. All of the races should be in HD, there's no excuse for it. I never see adverts anyway (thank you Media Center and Commercial Skip!) So the race was actually much shorter than the overall distance in relationship to what TV viewers saw. |

Although the entry list has Drayson Barwell down as running the DBRS9 they apparently plan on running the Vantage GT-2 at Long Beach. link
It will be good to get the Vantage on the grid finally. Just hope that the malady that befell the JWA Vantage's engine at Catalunya is sorted and will not effect the Drayson car. L.P. |
