South Africa win Max Challenge

South African driver Claudio Piazza-Musso has taken victory in the Rotax Max Challenge held in malaysia.
coming home in second was Australian Scott Auld

below is a pice from www.rvengines.com and the results of the top 12.

Brief News from Malaysia is that South African driver Claudio Piazza-Musso (Kart 21) is the winner of the 2002 Rotax Max Challenge and Queenslander Scott Auld (giddy-up) finished second. However some major drama occurred during the event . As reported from Richard Lim in Malaysia, the Kiwi Driver Matt Hamilton was the outstanding performer all weekend who was leading the final race by a huge margin and developed engine problems and was passed by the whole field in the dying staging of the race. Auld then led the race with the eventual winner South African Piazza Muso making a charge on the last lap with Auld ending up wide in the marbles area and having to settle with taking second spot.
Interesting point as reported was the the average age of the competitors which from information gathered was about 32 years of age, and one competitor who was 62 years old qualified 24th and finished 14th in each of the heats to be in the final .....62 years old.!! Not a bad effort.......

The Australians all gave excellent performances, and the Kiwi Scott Hamilton was shown to be the master, but through misfortune with engine problems in the last few laps was left high and dry, the Europeans found the humid and hot conditions very difficult with most lacking energy, as could be seen from their posture.

1. C. Piazza-Musso (South Africa)
2. S. Auld (Australia)
3. M. Pierce (UK)
4. D. Smith (Australia)
5. M. Cronje (South Africa)
6. M. Wall (Australia)
7. P. Lalmand (Belgium)
8. S. Bernard (Canada)
9. C. Cathcart (Australia)
10. B Gravdahl (Norway)
11. M van Niekerk (South Africa)
12. M Hamilton (New Zealand)

Australia has also claimed the team cup for this event.

well done to everyone who competed on a fine effort.
