What people will do to get the right car for the school run! I was doing some work at the local Ferrari dealer a couple of years ago and there was a german guy there trying to convince his wife that it OK to put the put on the parcel shelf behind the seats in the F355 he was wanting to buy!

Everyone loves the P4, but I've always had a soft spot for the 250P and 275P - don't know why.

Oh, and notice how so many skip over the most deliberately French period (Matra, Renault) of Le Mans?

The French built nice cars no doubt, but then by the time that they were winning they'd turned them into horrible things, the renault is a prime example of a really wrong looking car.

But i think that the Rondeau was fabulous.

Karl Kling should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Hmm... tough thread, where to start...? Well, I'll give it a shot. No special order.

Porsche 996 GT3RS
Panoz LMP07 (especially in MBD trim, the colour combination on that car is pure genius!)
Audi R8 (the R8R/C of -99 really stinks but the 2000-03 versions are true masterpieces of modern car design!)
Porsche 996 GT1 Evo -98
Porsche 956/962
Panoz LMP1 (the classic red ones, not the stars and stripes)
Bentley EXP Speed 8 2001-02 (British elegance at its best! Not so sure about the new one though, have to see it for real first...)
Cadillac LMP02
Porsche 934
Porsche 908 Coupé
Prodrive-Ferrari 550GTS
And all those longtails of the late sixties/early seventies...

wich ones did i forget...?

/k

Why can't be just simply answer the question?

It's not a competition as to who can post the oldest car reference.

Unfortunately Aysedasi didn't mention strictly from up to 20yrs ago, so some of you are trying to post your favourite cars from 4000BC.

Its probably better to make a new thread for the earlier Sportscars titled, "Favourite Sportscar from the 60s and 70s." Then your opinions would be appreciated more in their context.

Sorry to step in their Aysedasi but it was becoming impossible to follow... perhaps if we concentrated on a specific time, eg 1990 onwards or something?

Splatz, the question was asked 'Best Looking Sportscar'. I notice you haven't answered the question, WHY ?. Haven't you any favourites.
This Sportscar/GT forum is a great one. Everyone is able to pick their favourites and have input. I dont think that people are treating it as a competition to post the oldest car reference.
I await your favourites with great interest.

I wouldn't include the Matra in that though- it's always been one of my favourites

http://xplemierre.chez.tiscali.fr/ac...tro/matra.html (not a great photo though, its in Tour de France trim with extra lamps tacked on the nose which do spoil the looks....)

personally I don't think the Renault's that bad either, but I guess it comes down to personal taste

http://www.minichamps.com/781102.html

Paul's right though- they really do seem to be almost the forgotten Le Mans cars for some reason.....

Ok,

As there seems to be a bit of a conflicy about periods, lets follow paul-collins' lead and do it by era (though you can always move these around too):

1990s-present:
-Jaguar XJR-14
-McLaren F1 GTR (Long Tail, preferably)
-Joest TWR-Porsche ('96 and '97 Le Mans winner)
-Toyota GT-One

1980s:
-1988 Porsche 962 Long Tail
-EMKA Aston Martin
-1988-87 Sauber C9 (both Kouros and AEG liveries looked good)

1970s (reckon TomGT is on to something):
-Porsche 917, especially the '70 and '71 Langhecks
-Ferrari 512M, the Sunoco Penske car
-Ferrar 312PB
-Porsche 935/78 'Moby Dick' (probably more outrageous than good looking).

I won't go on any further as:
1. Message will be too long.
2. I don't want to be accused of trying to show-off by putting cars from that well-known Golden Age of Motoring, the 4000BC period!

I'm not fussed at all Splatz. The thread wasn't mine, I just suggested it might concentrate our thoughts to look at decades.
No matter, people have suggested some great cars. And, inevitably, the only one I disagree with is the Audi R8. For my money, on looks (which is what we were being asked to think about - not technical design or degrees of success) it doesn't even begin to live in the same list as the likes of the 917, 956/962, GT40, GT-One, McLaren F1 etc. etc. etc. etc.

But what do I know........

You know a lot - the R8 is NOT in the same league. The only ones that looked any good were the ones saved by their liveries ie. The Gulf car and this year's AudiUK entry.

Oh, almost forgot - and the 'Race Of the Millenium' Crocodile. But that would have been striking on anything, even a Ka (OK, maybe not).

Yes, the croc colour-scheme was certainly.... amusing. But just imagine how good it would look on a Bentley or a Toyota GT-One!!

It was different, at least. Plain old silver with a little bit of yellow, red or black doesn't do a lot for me....
