CARTS new Sponsor
I take a crack at it first. My bet is Coca Cola presents the Champ car series powered by ford.

Nah, it'll still be Bridgestone presents The Champ Car World Series powered by Ford. Of course, if there is a new sponsor it will be ... The <Sponsor Here> Champ Car World Series...

The rumor is that the potential sponsor they're talking to is McDonald's. The deal is supposedly a "free" title sponsorship in return for McDonald's worldwide promotional efforts. November 1st was supposed to be a deadline date on that, and no word has seeped out as to what has come of it. And if that's the deal, it still doesn't help CART/OWRS cash flow.

I've heard that, too. It's Paul Newman who's trying to put it all together.

Please don't tell me that the deal includes "free" title sponsorship?

Dov, can't tell you exactly where....discussed it with others on another board about three weeks ago and that's the first I'd heard it. It was back when Mark C. was playing "I've got a secret" a month or so ago. I subsequently heard the same thing as macdaddy, that it was a Newman deal of some kind, which fits in with McDonald's dabbling with the Newman-Haas team in '03.

The "free" part also fits with the kind of deals CART has been making. The Bridgestone and Ford deals were little cash, but TV commercial upgrades and a few frills. CART got the Pacificare deal for Newman-Haas and most of the cash flowed to the team but CART still wound up with an "Official Health Care" provider in some form.

We sure agree there, Dov, but it has yet to talk about the name of the sponsor, so it didn't come from there....Mark C. was in one of those, "I know but I won't tell you" modes.

Get a salad @ McDonald's & it comes with "Newman's Own" dressing. Coincidence?

lol...McDonald's as a title sponsor would be great for CART - even if it's free. McDonald's could easily get CART the mainstream exposure (beyond the CSI episode) that it so desperately needs right now. I say, bring on McDicks!

I don’t know. The McDonalds Champ Car World Series doesn’t have the same sound as the Budweiser Champ Car World Series. Then again...if they put their name and marketing power behind the deal, I could warm up to it.

But McDonalds will make your children fat! People at McDonalds are holding guns on the Children of America and forcing them to eat massive amounts of Burgers, Fries and Happy Meals! They Must Be Stopped!
Isn't there a nice tofu company with several billion dollars and international name recognition that we can sign up? |

I think any major firm, like McD's or Budweiser, would be a blessing for the series. Either one has massive budgets for advertising and just alittle of that directed for CART would be a huge boon for the series.

lol...much like cigarettes, people know what they're getting into when they order a big Mac. I'd love if McDick's sponsored our series! I honestly can't think of a company with more potential marketing power.
I'd cringe every time I said the name of the series if it was sponsored by Budweiser...but that's because of the awful product. Still, they have massive marketing power as well, and would be welcomed. |

There noth really bad for you, but think about the promotion McDonald's can do, they can put a toy champ car in evert happy meal, and then there be a new generation of Cart fans. Budweiser is going to keep on riding the Jr. Nascar Wagon.

Why do the "purists" feel that domestic beer and 800hp machines, without gearboxes, slingin' dirt, are somehow beneath them? Hey, beer's beer and racing's racing, and we're all allowed to enjoy any or all of them without some supercilious snob putting us down! This is the kind of attitude which keeps people from watching CART.

In one of the great marketing statements of all time, Pook once said last year, "Our fans don't smoke Winstons, drink Budweiser and drive pickup trucks," thus alienating those that do plus two companies that serve as sponsors in our sport.

was that in the same speach as
"Tony george runs a series that requires his drivers to turn left, we run one which requires the drivers to turn left, break and use their brains" |
