LMP Designers

I am doing some research for myself of who designed what LMP. The cars I can't find a designer for is the Audi R8, Porsche 911 GT1 98', Peugeot 905, Audi R8C, and Porsche 956/962. The list I have accumulated is...

Peter Elleray- Bentley EXP Speed 8
John Ward- Toyota Eagle MK3
Gordon Murray- Mclaren F1 GTR
John Russel- BMW V12 LMR
Tony Southgate- Jaguar XJR-9, XJR-12, Audi R8R, Ferrari 333sp
Bob Riley- Cadillac LMP 00'
Nigel Stroud- Cadillac LMP 02'
Paolo Cantane- Courage C41, C52, C60, Pescarolo C60
Andre de Cortanze- Toyota TS020 GT1
Andy Thorby- Panoz LMP07, Lister LMP
Frank Derniet and Julian Sole- Lola EX257

Please feel free to add any cars with their designers not already on the list.

Interesting thread !
André de Cortanze designed also the Peugeot 905 and the "Pescarolo" C60 from the Courage C60.
Tony Southgate designed the Toyota TS 010 of 1992/93.

He's no engineer. He just designed the exterior afaik. He's been head of design at Lamborghini for the last few years and recently moved to SEAT I believe.

Funny that sportscar designers tend to be much more low-profile than those in F1. No really big names like Adrian Newey, Rory Byrne, John Barnard or Harvey Postlethwaite.

Re the Mazda and Porsche I don't think Southgate did them, when the Mazda appeared he was with Toyota, the"mother" of both cars, the XJR 14, was designed by Ross Brawn...

82C was a Champcar. 82G, perhaps? (with strange bodywork by Max Sardou, IIRC).

Er, ah, oops.

You are, of course, correct, sir. I just had Red Lobster on the brain.

Still, that (the G) was Adrian Newey-penned. (BTW, Andy Thorby worked at March in this timeframe, but IIRC he did not have any input on the sportscar.)

Someone mentioned the XJR-15/R390 earlier, which reminds me of something an ex-TWR man told me not too long ago. They had, as everyone knew, pretty much the same tub - in fact, the mould for the R390 tub was the very same one used to make the XJR-15, but it had a few extra bits bolted on to create a few slight differences.

Was the 911 GT1-98 a steel tub or carbon fibre ? Did it use a production chassis or was it a claen sheet design ?

Norbert Singer was the project manager for the GT1-98.

Maybe we can agree that they did it together...

They used a carbon fibre tub. It was the first Porsche race car which used a carbon tub ( I don´t count the TWR Joest Porsche ). Interesting : The tub was not made by Porsche, it was made by NITEC. NITEC belonged in that days to Zakspeed.

It was a clean sheet design ( but they had to consider to use it also for the street legal version )

I recall something about the 1996 and 1997 Porsche's GT1 that also had Zakspeed manufactured chassis... Is this true?

No, they used steel tubs which were made in Weissach. The tubs for the 993 GT1 / Evo based on the 911 road chassis ( the front part ).Zakspeed / NITEC were only involved in the GT1-98 project.
