i think the vast majority aren't able to genuinely assess which is the most sensible option, gordon. it's not as if the insurance companies give them a genuine, unbiased view on what their best option is when they ring up!

surely not many kids realise there's more than one type of insurance?

Fully comp is generally cheaper than tpft so It's not a sensible option any more.

Well I never !
The main reason for this is that insurers have noticed that motorists with riskier profiles often tend to opt for third party car insurance policies and because they go on to make more claims, it bumps up the cost of this type of cover. Therefore, even if you're trying to keep the cost down, you may find you don't have to cut back on the level of cover to do so.
Funny how this thread has gone from tyres to insurance !

I hope it's not too late but can I suggest Vredestein Quatrac all-season tyres. We have run them on my mother's car for a number of years (Quatrac 2s and 3s) and they seam to do very well in winter, no problems in snow. This might be due to skinny 185/60 14 sized tyres. We normally rotate tyres every November and Easter, but the last pair were left on and lasted 2 or so years. We have now recently bought a pair of Conti 850's winters to replace them.
