It also means you can put a gentleman driver in the car and not consign it to the back of the field, provided he doesn't crash on the warmup lap. Championships like Blancpain is a good business model for a lot of people both on the managing and driving end. The only thing they need to be ware of is to not lose their profile, which is a risk if you go off doing national GT's or lesser international GT3 championships. Ideally they should try and get their hands on an M3 for a GTE programme, but I can't imagine BMW being too keen letting those cars go.

Did they say that they're forgoing the BTCC for this... or adding it as another string to their bow ? Motorbase have successfully managed to run quite a number of Carrera Cup cars for customers alongside their BTCC campaign, so maybe they see bringing a GT campaign under their roof as a logical step expansion step.

Bit risky. World GT's future is way too shaky for me to want to commit to it. And for that you'd definitely need a sponsor, since a gentleman driver would put you way back in those races. Fair to say World GT's exposure is still way behind BTCC in the UK and not great anywhere.

It doesn't surprise me and makes a mockery of some of the things they've said about being in it for the long-term, etc.

It may be a tactical ploy to get Griffin and Jackson to stump up some more walla for 2012. Or it could be that the GT's represent a better business model for them, and they'd be foolish to remain in a series if it doesn't work financially for them. It's all conjecture, who knows what the reason is... or even if it's true at all... though Aunt Sally's 'rumours' are generally close to the truth.

As I said, the info came from someone well connected with the team. So I have no reason to doubt it.

Motorsport News reporting that MG on the verge of new works BTCC programme - possibly 3 years - and probably using the MG6 in NGTC spec.
Apparently they are in discussion with two leading teams over running the car - presumably WSR must be one and the other - 888? |

I reckon 888. Sounds ideal for them.

One thing though - a few weeks ago AUTOSPORT said that it wouldn't be possible for an MG works team as they haven't sold enough M6s to be eligible as a manufacturer again. |

I'm sure Mr Gow would waive that if it meant they could have another make and model on the grid.

If he gets 1000 Twitter followers, he says he'll reveal the news!

If he actually posted something interesting instead of just random garbage he might get to that many followers a bit quicker. Do you think he'll be in position to reveal the news before the end of next season?

Donington date is 14/15 April, taking the weekend originally pencilled for the WTCC who have dropped a UK round altogether.
