Nico turning the screw very nice.
First practice session fastest for Toyota yes? EDIT: Also brilliant to see JRM right in the mix too after that lap from Dumbreck. Less than a second separating the Toyota, Audis and the lead HPD. |

I hate to say it but seeing that the HPD is that close pretty much tells us that Audi is toying with everybody I think.

It is always interesting to compare long runs as this is good indication of the race pace.
The big question however how long Toyota can run with a full tank. During the second practice session Toyota managed only 40 minutes compared to 55 minutes for Audi. In Silverstone the difference in stint length was only 10 minutes (40 minutes vs 50 minutes). Could the fuel consumption advantage of Audi have grown with the higher altitude? |

On RLM they said the advantage of Toyota was around 40 seconds (I think) before they pit. If that's the case they may make up enough time on track to negate the pit stop.
That HPD is quick, but it was one lap and they were faster than any other privateer P1 team by about a second. So I don't think Audi was taking their time, but that HPD got a fast lap in as the pace of the other privateers are about 2 seconds off the Toyota. |

Toyota did 25 laps (so excluding out and in lap) in 35:36, the #1 Audi in 36:00 and the #2 Audi in 36:06. So that is an advantage of 24 seconds and 30 seconds respectively. |

I'm just repeating what I heard. I never said it was accurate. That's why I said IF they make up enough time on track, they MAY be able to negate a pit stop. Besides, we don't know just how far the Toyota can actually go until they need to refuel.

And gwyllion never said you did. He just said it was inaccurate.
It'll come down to total number of stops and safer cars... |

Just trying to clarify that it was something the RLM guys were saying, and not my calculations. They may've said 30 seconds, I just remember them saying they gained an amount of time.
But, through practice 2, it seemed the Toyota was about a half second per lap faster than the Audi on a consistent basis. I'm not doing any calculations on it because they may be only able to do 26 laps on a tank, maybe they can do 30? I guess we'll just have to find out. But it is looking good for them, and I know it'll be closer on strategy than it was at Silverstone. |

If Audi can run 55 minute stints under ideal conditions (no FFCs start to finish), they're very safe with a 6 stop strategy for 5 full fuel stops and a short fill for their last stop (bit more than half a tank to be safe). Under those same conditions, Toyota might need as many as 8 stops, plus maybe a splash or fuel saving as with 40 minute stints, with 8 stops, they'll be making it by the skin of their teeth to make the 360 minutes + 1 lap.
Only saving grace that Toyota has right now is if they are consistently faster in race trim, but Interlogos has a long pit lane, and Toyota does loose 3-5 seconds on fuel stops. With that all in mind, we have to figure the respective stop times (in, pit stop, out elapsed time) for both Audi and Toyota to even get an idea of how much time that Toyota has to gain to negate those possible two extra stops, and perhaps a splash. |

I also think that Audi and TMG might be screwing around a bit for JRM get to within a second of what Toyota turned in session 2.

#1 Audi fastest with a 1.22.765, with #2 Audi and Toyota back .37 and .71 sec respectively. Info obtained from FIA/ACO stream--T&S still dead, and it's not raining with about 15 minutes to go.

Di Grassi looking very accomplished and pacey in the Audi.
Lots of traffic out on track now might make it difficult to go quicker at the end of this session. |

Di Grassi closed to within .2 of the #1 Audi, and calls it a day with about 1 minute to go. Wurz doesn't improve and finds himself only half a second ahead of the JRM HPD.

Is there a stream for qualifying that does not require you to have Flash?
