frenchbiker should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Olivier Panis in F1, help needed.

One year prior to joining Ligier in 1994, Olivier Panis was offered a test driver contract with another F1 team. Instead he went back to F3000 for another season and won the title.
What F1 team was it?

Thanks for your help

No, Panis won it with the DAMS team in the Reynard-Cosworth and Avon tyres.

I'd go for a French team so either Larrousse of Ligier.

I thought i heard something about Panis testing with McLaren a long while ago.
Could be totally wrong though...

Oh, and i'm not talking about 2000.
A fair while earlier IIRC.

Alan McNish was test driver for McLaren in 1993. I don't know if he got the job after Panis declined though.

Allan was at Benetton in 1993. Mika Hakkinen was McLaren test driver that year.

Eric Bernard was test driver at Ligier.

Panis's offer I assume was from Larrousse or Ligier - and incidentally he never drove a McLaren until the end of 1999, not years earlier.

You're right kicking-back. McNish was test driver with Benetton in 1993, he was with McLaren in 90-91-92.
My mistake.

Wasn't DAMS - that project was over the winter of 94/95 with Jan Lammers and Erik Comas

I agree with you kicking-back. DAMS was strictly a F3000 team until 1994. They won 3 WC in 90-93-94

Thanks "thebear" but this bio of Olivier (that I knew already) doesn't answer the question. What F1 team contacted him to be a test driver for the 1993 season.
I know most F1 sites and I couldn't find the info. That's why I asked the question on several F1 forums.

The answer is in Olivier Panis' book "Passion F1" but it's unavailable in the US (and very hard to find in France!).

Thanks again for trying to help me.

I already told you there's nothing to share, what part of "NO PRIZE" don't you understand?

And I would be ready to bet that you don't even know the answer so don't waste your time posting.
