A couple of statements of intent in LMP2 qualifying.
Pole position for both races set by 16 year old Franco Colapinto. And second place starts for both races for 20 year old Yifei Ye.
Colapinto managed by Jamie Campbell-Walter and Ye managed by Neel Jani's dad.

Enjoyable race. Good to see some endurance racing again. I watched the whole thing. The beauty of YT is that I could take my wife to her first Covid jab appointment and come back and carry on where I left off! My lad was rear wheel man for the Racing Team India car which was sadly pedalled a little too slowly. Sorry to see Alain Ferte blow it in the #40, but he may well have been caught anyway. I'm not sure if they got a penalty after the race?

They did. With the penalty applied Optimum is 2nd, Walkenhorst 3rd and GPX 4th.

The way A. Renauer was catching him, there's no way A. Ferté would have finished in front of him, even without his mistake and the penalty.

His mistake cost him second place. If he kept it on the road the penalty would not have lost him any more places.

Enjoyed the race again today (although my missus didn't enjoy me sitting watching a second 4 hour race in 2 days!). Well done to GPX, got the strategy right this time. Felt sorry for my lad and the Racing Team India car. Looked so good after the first driver, only for the inexperienced and slow 'money man' to convert a brief overall lead into a full lap deficit..... I think we're going to be hearing quite a bit about Colapinto over the next couple of years.....

Loved to see an old time Gokart friend/competitor doing well. The first 2 stints sunday by Malthe Jacobsen was close to perfect.

His determination to always be the best was clear from the early years.

Hope he will be able to race i Le Mans in the near future.

it’s so cool your son works for Algarve Pro though, congratulations all round. I think handling the ‘money men’ is one of the important skills in sportscar racing at this level though. Is it just me or did the ERA car look a little ‘Algarve Pro’ too?

One of the UA's had an alternator problem. I don't know about the other.

#23 was alternator

#2 was a minor mistake from the driver but car excluded as received outside assistance

I've watched all three races so far Graham and have enjoyed them, primarily as it's just great to see sportscars racing again. Thanks very much to you and Oliver for the commentary. Looking forward to the last race tomorrow.

The level in LMP2 and LMP3 classes is quite disappointing.
GT3 cars field is where the real competition is.

LMP2 field is small, but LMP3 is just as competitive as the GTs.

Yes, he looks a young star, for sure. The #26 does have the quicker more consistent drivers though.
