Upheaval at Ford???

Rumors are apparently flying in the Glass House and elsewhere to the effect that Jacques Nasser is out of favor with the folks whose name is on the building, and will be toast soon. Following was excerpted from Formula1.com, as my Forbes was not delivered today.

"Reports are emerging from America that Ford CEO Jacques Nasser could be ousted from the company by the end of the year. According to Forbes magazine, Nasser has lost the confidence of the Ford family, which controls 40% of the board's voting power through stock holdings, and therefore is unlikely to last into 2002."

Speculation is that if Nasser goes, the family will step back in and curtail racing activities including the Jaguar F1 effort. Henry the Deuce backed the Le Mans effort 110%, but never really went in for F1. I have no inside info on how the younger generation of Fords feel about F1, but cutting it off and selling the team will make good reading for the stockholders.

Great news. This will give jackie Stewart the chance to buy the team back at a fraction of the price he sold it for...Stewart GP lives on.

I seriously don't think that Ford will pull Jag out of F1, especially seeing as they have begun to start going better now. And if they do stop the team, it will cost them alot just to pay out contracts with people like Irvine and Lauda. It wouldn't surprise me though if Ford lowered their financial involvement in the team, and relied on Jaguar Cars to find money

They could ease the financial burden by selling the latest Cosworth engines to a couple more teams!

Or replacing Irvine for a couple of Bernoldis that would be willing to buy him out of his contract....LOL

1. Give Lauda complete control. Ford pay the bills, that is all.
2. Sack Irvine - he's driving for his pension and is certainly not the worth of money he is being paid
3. Keep PDLR and bring in Courtney or some other young driver
4. Improve team infrastructure. Jaguar give the feeling that everyone is on edge and no-one is assured of keeping their job.

The first word in each of Maxmil's paragraphs say it all: "Rumors, Reports and Speculation".

This has been reported in the Detroit press for some time. Everytime things get tough in the industry, rumors of shakeups begin to circulate, (at Ford and in the press).

When Nasser took over from Alex Trotman a few years ago, everyone thought it was the end of Ford's motorsport involvement because Nasser was a no-nonsense "cost cutter". That didn't happen.

Mr. Manoz, I agree with each point except, if Ford is paying the bills, you don't really expect them to have no input into the direction of the team, do you? That's just not reality.

The trade press ("Automotive News") is reporting this morning that Bill Ford, Jr. is taking over as has been speculated recently. Ford will make further announcements today. Their article identified six mistakes made by Jacques Nasser. Number six was that he paid too much attention - and provided too much cash - to the Premier Group which includes Jaguar.
