Crash Test should be qualifying in the top 5 on the gridCrash Test should be qualifying in the top 5 on the grid
The Package

What classes would you like to see supporting the big league V8 Supercar series next season? Keeping in mind that PROCAR won't have anything to do with them next season, you've got to fill the gaps on the program with 4 or 5 classes.

A few suggestions:
FFord
FHolden
Sports Sedans
Saloon Cars
Porsche Cup
Improved Production
Daewoos
MG things that Paul Pickett is pulling together
Mirages
Historic Grp N
HQs
Konicas
V8 Stock Cars
Group C Tourers
Future Tourers
F3
Superkarts
Superbikes
Formula Extreme
Tractors
remote control plane demonstrations...
drags demos...
Other classes/local classes?

Also, they are going to re-think the VB Challenge for next year, what would you do differently??

Doesn't matter, none of them get on TV anyway... that's hogged by the Supercars.

If, however, I went to the meetings, anything like Daewoos would see me chatting to trees in the spectator areas.

Sorry to be so ignorant, but what are the 'Mg things...'?

Pul Pickett is now selling seats in the new "MGF Trophy" using brand new MGF Trophy 160 Sports Cars, which pump out about 160hp. They will be televised on trackside, and will have about $94,000 in prize money. They'll be an "arrive and drive" set-up like the Daewoos.

I'll never forget the first Daewoo race I had to commentate this year at QR... all of the cars look the same, and there are only 3 or 4 different paint schemes...yerrg.

Really?

They just don't ever learn how much they offend the enthusiasts, do they?

TR7s, Alfasuds, Lasers... Renault Newstar Series... oh, what is wrong with them? Geminis! HQs! These are extensions of the same silliness... classes that detract from racing as a whole.

One make racing doesn't realy do it for me. I enjoy variety.

As a support package for the V8s, I'd like to see Sports Sedans, Improved Production Touring Cars, Historic Touring Cars & Group C Touring Cars if they can get a field together.

Supporting Classes

Sports sedans
F3
Formula Holden
2Lt Touring Cars

And to replace the VB Challange I propose the VB chicken serries.

This is where DJR & HRT go head to head in the show downs of showdowns.

Taking chicken a step further, they could have a race around the track- one car goes one way, the other goes the other....and they hope they don't meet head on

I don't really know what I would want. I think you could bolt just about any state level class onto a V8 Supercar program, and they would deliver big grids and quality racing. I love Sport Sedans, but I am quite biased on that one. National level FFord scares me more than state level FFord, but what they will be like after next season, nobody knows...

Can FHolden bounce back??

Back in the good old days a speedway promoter in SA used to run Figure 8 races. No bridge or anything, just a flat figure of 8, and it was rather exciting stuff... I would love to see it done as a VB Challenge, that would really sort the men from the boys

And rid us of another unnecessary class... good idea!

That figure 8 stuff was done with what they used to call 'stock cars'... mostly pre-war Ford V8s barred up to the hilt.

I reckon it should be shared around between a number of classes. And the whole support program should get on TV, not just a select few. The sports sedans supported the V8s this year and i don't think they got any TV.

There should be:
- state level class (eg.. Gemini's in QLD)
- Konica's
- FFord & FHolden
- Sports Sedans
- Bikes
- Group N
- Group C Tourers
- One make MGF Trophey

I'm with you all should get on TV somehow, even if it's SBS or pay. Improved production should be on the top of the list, what a fantastic class of racing. Followed by HQ's and Gemini's (QLD)

DNQ's realistic dream supporting cast:

- Formula Extreme
- Formula Ford
- Nations Cup/GTP
- V8 BRutues
- Sports Sedans
- MGF Trophy
- Historics*

* Any type of historics - Group N, Open Wheelers, bikes, whatever

MGF what a joke Paul Pickett had got to be kidding.
Any car that you have to remove the engine to change the spark plugs (Yes it's true) has to be a waste of time.

rx3racer sez (in his profile) he's from SE Qld...

So the MGF suffers from the V6 Camry disease?

Of course, it is descended from the might MG A, the twincam version of which had to have the sump put in place before the engine was lowered in, then the sump bolted up before the mating with the gearbox... all of this because you had to take the engine out to get to the generator!

Yes but because it is a Lucas generator you don't have any problems do you.

On the MGF you change the plugs when you have the engine out to change the timing belt, every 60,000 km.

The Camry came with 100,000km plugs so the change could be delayed....

DNQ, why is your idea particlularly realistic? Especially considering that, as Crash stated at the top of the thread, PROCAR are doing there own thing, so Nations Cup, GTP & V8 BrUtes are OFF the V8 Supercar program.
