ACB10's
I'm after 2 front tyres (ACB10's) for a formula ford 1600.
I've just been in contact with BMTR who are not at my next race and can't fit tyres on the weekends. Can anyone let me know of any for sale or any other suppliers who can fit during the weekend ? Cheers |

I've had this with BMTR before. I just get them to send to me by next day delivery and get fitted locally. Might be the easiest way?

Not sure as I don't know them that well. I get the impression that there's one guy that runs "the office" and if you don't get him then the others only answer what you ask?
(Another thought - BMTR understand where balance weights can be fitted re wheel/brake caliper. If they are in the wrong place the caliper will tear the weights off. I guess the esiest way is to check where they are now and get them fitted in the same area. On my RF86 that's the centre of the wheel not the rim edge.) |

Tiptop why don't you go direct to Avon, they are only in Melksham which is not a million miles from where you are...Also, only front tyres?? What about the rear's?? Could make for some interesting handling characteristics if you have badly mis-matched tyres.

It might improve my driving ? I have a puncture on the front right (slowish) which is why I was going to replace them both. Can these punctures be fixed (i see nothing stuck in the tyre?)
Who can fix them also a local garage or are they something for a specialist to do ? |

Would you feel safe going at 130mph over Avon Rise knowing that you have a punctured repaired front tyre..........? Hopefully your response would be Hell No!!

Hi again, if it's only a slow puncture could it just be the valve? A little bit of washing up liquid and water on a finger pressed on the valve might show a leak. Worth a quick check.
(You can plug the tyres but - I wouldn't!) |

I've had it where the air leaks from round the rim.Easiest way to find it is put the whole thing inflated into a bath of water and see where the bubbles come from.

I believe there is some good, but used ACB10s on ebay at the mo. Would be a good stop gap to get you on track. type in formula ford, and they should come up.

Seriously, if you get them fitted by your local "can't get better than a" outfit, or the village garage, tell them this. "Be very careful with the beading" When they first appeared, loads of drivers got them fitted, blew them up, loaded the trailer and arrived at the circuit with four flats. |

Does anyone have a view whether ACB10s are useful as "intermediates" in series where the tyre choice is free. I raced at the end of last season in races where the track was very damp but there was no rain - everyone, including the eventiual winner, spun but it struck me that ACB10s or cut slicks might have been ideal. It was too wet for slicks but might not have been wet enough for wets! If cut slicks is the answer, where do you get them done?

ACB10 in anything other than full dry are ****e.
In the damp, run your Zetec wets and wear them out! |

Five and a half grand minimum bid on an RF87. Hmmm, just how many cars do you get for that?
