Teams agree to some of FIA's 2008 rules...

According to Autosport.com the teams have agreed to "some" of the new regs.
Unfortunatly I do not subscribe so cannot read beyond the opening sentance.

Would anyone care to elaborate?

Menelaos should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I see wait and see if F1 will still exist in 2008 as we know it. It won't be very surprising in the FIA wants the teams to pay and they all leave the sport, I really wouldn't be that surprised.

Perhaps the charges against the teams are just to apply pressure for the teams to agree to the rules, and presto, you'd find the charges reduced.

Paul Stoddard: "Formula One doesn't need problems, it needs solutions," he said. "We need one championship going forward in 2008 and I sincerely hope it will be the FIA Formula One World championship"

Sensible statement.

Im just keen to find out whether or not the teams have adopted the slick tyres and low aero package.
I would imagine thats what it would be if they have agreed anything?

Slicks they have agreed to, and they're proposing a 40% cut in aero rather than 90%.

40% wont do much at all, though its better than nothing.

After all, wasn't 2005 meant to have a 30% decrease?

Slicks, I guess, they have no reason not to agree to. The problem is that teams that do well now 'cause they invest lots of money to work on new technologies and better aero wouldn't really like to see all their advantages vanish.

Well thats a sacrifice that needs to be made if F1 wants to continue to be in existance past next week.

Besides, the FIA could push a cut on downforce through on safety grounds and wouldn't require the consent of the teams.

In itself a cut in downforce could be argued to be more dangerous, as it means less grip. In practice the regulations can be adjusted to cut that out, and the improvement to the quality of rcing would make it worthwhile it itselfd. But like The Monster I'm curious as to precisely which rules have been agreed to.

On the roads, more grip is a good thing, because none of us usually drive our cars to their limits, so in that case more grip is safer.

But in racing less grip is potentially safer, as it makes the car slower, because the limit will be lower.

Yeah exactly...give the F1 guys any amount of grip (within reasonable limits) and they will use all of it and still spin crash etc while pushing the limits

When you have lots of aero grip... there is the danger that your wing breaks off and you loose all this grip... and go flying off the track at high speed. With less aero you will be going around the corner slower and thus would be "safer"
