Mopar should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Dome-Goh bmw

Was this car ever raced other than at the 99 fuji race and to what extent was it successful? Also was the BMW V12 LM (98 guise) the first Williams built sportscar?

As far as I know, the BMW V12 LM was the first sportscar built by Williams. It was run by Gabriele Rafanelli at Le Mans in 1998; the V12 LMR of 1999/2000 was run by Charly Lamm's Schnitzer squad (to rather greater success).

In 1998 Team BMW raced the V12 LM, chassis numbers 001/98 (car #1/dnf) & 002/98 (car #2/dnf). In 1999 Team BMW upgraded to the V12 LMR and ran chassis numbers 003/99 (car #15/winner) and 002/99 (car #17/dnf). Price/Bscher Racing Racing ran chassis number 001/98 (car #18/5th). Team Goh ran chassis number 002/98 (car #19/dnf). The Bscher car also ran in 2000.

Hope this helps on the history.

I wonder why BMW never sold, or leased the 1999 LMR's as customer chassis? Would that car be competitive with the Audi?

The reason they gave for not selling or leasing the V12 LMRs was that they were high-tech, complicated machines that customers might not be able to cope with, and failure would tarnish the BMW brand image. I think the truth, however, is that by the end of 2000 the LMR had lost its edge and was no longer competitive with the ever-improving Audis. Remember it ran for two years (1999-2000) in the ALMS, but had been designed purely for Le Mans.

Yeah, I figured as much. The car was edged out by the Panoz in 1999 and struggled against the Audi in 2000. I think they had something like three race wins in the ALMS in 1999 and two race wins in 2000. If memory serves me I don't think they even had a pole in 2000. But you're right, the low wing set up probably did not suit their cause in the States.

RML (ray mallock limited ran nissans in super touring to great success) were goning to create customer versions of the chassis. but the deal fell through probably due to the ccompetitiveness of the audi r8 in their debut season

Buying one of these and upgrading it might be another one of those "LMP on a Shoestring" options.....

But I couldn't find a prie for the one "for sale" on that link above....

the v12 lmr's enigne, like the ferrari v12, was hit with an unfavorable restrictor which cost the car dearly... this is why the ferrari v12 was switched out of some 333sp's in favor of the judd v10. if someone threw a judd gv4 in a lmr in 2000, it would definitely have given the audis something to worry about
