Project Blueprint

What do you all think about Blueprint??
I think we have just created more follow the leader racing, with cars so equal there is hardly any chance of passing.
Why not a basic set of rules, e.g. max engine size, min weight, min and max dimensions etc and let in any make and my the best team/car win.

They did when it came out and had free tyres,g'box ratios, diff ratios, unlimited testing etc but hey not everyone likes to have there true $$$$/brains exposed on national TV so they took all the variables out so that everyone is equal.
Bit like the constantly lowering of speed limits so the dills of the world can bumble around till pension time with out having to look for traffic..

heh yeah i hear ya. The problem is, as i see it, is that rule after rule is introduced, in the name of parity. I reckon the rot set in way back in 86-87(?) when Oz became part of the now defunct World Touring Cars comp (whatever it was called). The Group A thing. I remember Brocky saying "Why change now? We have the BEST series in the world in Group C". And i completely agreed with him then, and still do. (even as a Dicky fan at the time, who Brock and that amazing Commodore was thrashing)

What we have now is still enjoyable, in a sanitised way.

True, but you gotta love the word "sanitised"

But how is it more entertaining now????? It isn't, cars are closer, but whats the point if they can't overtake? and if they try, they get penalised, I think we are all repeating ourselves here.

Well, it's certainly more interesting BETWEEN the race meetings if not on the circuits.

5 mins in here should confirm that.

For me it is less interesting than either group A or group C was because the cars are all the same. As a car enthusiast, I liked the variety of different manufacturers and types of cars in the earlier formula (you don't know what you'll miss until its gone).

"Sanitised" really is a good description for what we have now - dumbed down "entertainment" delivered by those interested in money, not car racing - I guess they figure that the racing enthusiasts will watch whatever dross they care to serve up and they are trying to "catch" the general audience to increase their revenues.

Well, not a bad plan so long as the core audience does not get fed up - which I suspect it might be (I bloody well am anyway).

Sorry, rant over..

I'll always watch it but the crowds can be divided into the hard-core diehards and the types that have only been around since the late 90's. Merchandising is a good case in point. In many ways, what happens on the circuits is becoming secondary to the mass-market appeal of the whole V8 show. I don't really mind just as long as the part I'm interested in- the racing- continues with the same intensity.
