I would agree, Woodcote for watching the cars for a longer time and enjoying the 'stadium atmosphere', or Becketts for seeing just what an F1car is capable of through a sequence of bends. I watched my first GP from their 9 years ago and was completely blown away.
Just make sure you get their early and stake a claim to your spot for the day. hope you have a great time whatever you end up doing. |

Firstly I must apologies for posting this topic in the wrong section
Thanks for the help guys.....But I do have a few more questions so here goes. I have never been to silverstone before and i can't find much info on the raised areas are they grass or concrete? can you see the track if you are sat on the floor (its a long time from 5am), i take it they get full and can anyone say how full?. Should i take a flask or is there any places around the track?. Does anyone have a good picture of silverstone from the air or any other pictures of the track that may help me. Thanks Leigh |

I would also mention Club as a good place to view as well
the raised areas are: - a concrete terrace at woodcote - a mud/gravel bank at becketts - a gravelly bank at club all of those areas you can take deck chairs or similar and put them up (everyone else does), so that should ease the wait from dawn and also makes it easier to keep your place without it being nicked obviously if there's a group of you, one can mind the chairs while everyone else goes for a wander all the areas mentioned are prime viewing spots and will fill up from when the gates open, woodcote and club are likely to be full by 6 or 7am, becketts perhaps a bit later by 9am there are plenty of refrseshment points around the track, although quality varies and prices are generally high (well more expensive than bringing your own) |

this link may help with a map http://www.k9motorsport.co.uk/pg-CT-SV1.htm i'd ignore some of the comments though I didn't particulary agree with the ratings of the viewpoints

There are, as Redshoes says, lots of places to buy food but be prepared for your hard won prime standing place to be taken when you get back. Better off taking the butties I think!

unless "there's a group of you, one can mind the chairs while everyone else goes for a wander or to buy some food"
however the quality and price of the food available means the butties could be a good idea |

if you want to see an air shot of silverstone try this...
go to www.marshalspost.com then link to circuits then click on a/z symbol, from that you can click on aerial photo and have a play enjoy |

I think the butties will be the option and even more so because there is only two of us going so will not really be able to go wandering much.
Is it possible to visit silverstone before the race and wander around the viewing area's maybe this would give me a better insight into the views. Thanks Leigh |

There's racing of some sort almost every weekend at Silverstone. If you've never been why not go to a clubie meeting and have a look around. Chances are it will be on the National or International circuit rather than the full Grand Prix layout but you'll get the general idea. Chances are you'll get to see some much better racing as well.

Leigh, the monoposto club will be racing at Silverstone on the 3rd April - the racing is normally very good and you should be able to walk anywhere, if you ask micely enough. If you go to a club meeting have a look/walk around at the paddock and pits areas, at least you will have had a look because you will not be able to visit the paddock etc during the F1 race unless you happen to be a minor celebrity/royalty.
Be careful, before you know it you may really enjoy motorsport and even end up as a marshall or competitor. By the way the best views during the GP and certainly enjoyed by the marshalls. |
