Airfield Wanted

Hi There

Having just purchased a stock hatch car, I'm looking for somewhere to test it cheaply. I don't yet want to pay for testing at a circuit until I'm confortable with the car so I gussed hiring an airfield strip would be cheaper and safer as I'd not have much to hit.

The only problem is I can't find one! I live in Oxfordshire and can't get a number for Chalgrove Airfield. I also asked at Dalton Barracks regarding the former RAF Abingdon strip but no joy.

If anyone has any contact numbers or knows of any airfields in or around Oxfordshire that can be hired cheaply, I'd love to hear from you!

Thanks.

Phil

Try Hullavington, Keevil in Wiltshire or Kemble in Glos They are all used for trackdays and sprints and should be available the details I think will be in the blue book.

Part of Bovingdon is run by Spedeworth who rent from a local farmer. You can phone them on 01420 588020.

thanks guys. You've all been fab! I'm contacting Enstone (hmm, nice and local!) and I'll give Bovington a call (via Spedeworth). Braintree's venue at £35 sounds like a blinder but a bit far out for a post of testing. Worth bearing in mind though as you never know!

Popped to Gosfield on my travels.
Details as follows:-
The Old Which Test Track
The Old Control Tower,Gosfield Airfield,Hedingham Road,
Gosfield,Nr Halstead,Essex, CO9 1SA
Telephone:01787 473348 or 478867
Contact is Clive Blackwell
Times are 10 to 4 Monday to Saturday no Sundays or Bank Holidays, Bear in mind it is a straight strip with turning circles, but ideal for just running your up and down, running engine, bedding in brakes etc. better than running the car for the first time, not a good deal to book days testing for 150 pounds then having problems

Fantastic! Thank You!

I think I'll book this then as even with the extra fuel to get there it still works out cheaper. Regretabbly, I broke my wrist whilst looking for an evening job to fund the racing so I can't drive at the moment though. Sod's Law. Gosfield sounds like the perfect place to the feel of your car so I'll make it my first session.
