Grading Confusion

From past posts here, & conversations with other marshals, it has become apparent that there is a lot of confusion surrounding the grading scheme.

Inspired by Alan Green's excellent 'Beginner's Guide to Marshalling', I 've put together a few thoughts on grading which may help to answer some of the questions, now on line at:

http://web.onetel.net.uk/~davebrand/grading.html

Any comments, criticisms, even praise, will be gratefully (if not graciously!) received.

I like this bit:

"grades don't make marshals, marshals make grades."

Very good Dave,

When I get round to putting useful links on my site I'll add that one in if you don't mind.

Al.

"grades don't make marshals, marshals make grades."

This says it all I think. I'm behind you so close it's getting embarassing. It's so good to read this. For some time I really understood, that this whole grading scheme was seen as a way of making a career. I didn't like that idea. It should be something to encourage marshals in getter better in their 'job', not to a thing that devides marshals but a thing that brings us together.

There's some good info on there Dave....

Us poor speed marshals grading route is by comparison far simpler....

Just a shame its not recognised by the powers that be..

Nice simple summary Dave. Problem is I might now be in danger of understanding what is going on and can't just refer all queries to the Grading administrator.

Regards

Jim
